I would not be suprised if I am alone in this, but I really am not into the shower thing.
Please do not be offended if you are having one - I think it is great if you are into it, but I think they are kind of dumb.
I have only been to one, and it was SO boring. And I just do not like the idea of having a party JUST for the sole purpose of people bringing me gifts. I know I should love that, but it makes me uncomfotable. Plus, my entire extended family lives out of state - too far to come in for a shower and then the wedding, so it would just be my girlfriends - whish is fine, but a lot of them live OOT too.
I know I don't HAVE to have one, but I was just wondering if there is anyone else out there who is not into this????

Re: Anyone NOT want a shower??
I understand how you feel! My moh (mysister) is giving me a shower but I feel very neutral about it...if I have one...great! But if I dont...thats fine too! All I really want is just to get together with friends and family before the wedding...even just to go out for dinner. My best friend is getting married in August and she does not want a shower either. Her sister and I are in the bridal party and we are taking her for a day of beauty and then meeting her mom and FMIL for dinner!

I'm with you too and in fact I posted about it a week or so ago.
FMIL is not my biggest fan right now so I'm 86-ing the idea of a shower altogether.

II'm not sure. I think I want one, but I'm really worried about people being bored. I've only been to one, my SIL's and I didn't know anyone there--for some reason my mom wasn't there and none of our other female relatives were invited (might be why they're headed for divorce now?). It was so awful! And my MOH is talking about playing these cheesy games, which is so not me. I just want something fun but classy--lots of martinis. People always have a better time when they've been drinking

Re: Anyone NOT want a shower??
I'm sooo with you, and I felt guilty about it for awhile but now I feel so much better I didnt have a shower!
I begged everyone not to give me one.. I just hate the entire idea, I purposely did not register to pursuade them NOT to give me one even, and I dreaded the thought of having it.
I know that my MOH , FMIL and my mom had already started tentatively planning it, but I was still SO against the idea that the actually LISTENED finally and nixed the idea! I cannot tell you how happy I was about this. For whatever reason, I just hated the thought of a being the center of attention, and sitting there at a shower .. its SO not me. Instead my mom, FMIL, a few very select close cousins/friends (and my bridal party) are planning an informal get together just to have a 'girls day out' , where they are treating me to a day of beauty.
I love this idea SOOO much better!

Re: Anyone NOT want a shower??
I hate the all girl boring shower with that stupid hat that you wear with the bows and ribbons, so my MOH is throwing a jack and jill shower, she is planning on a bbq with all friends and family. I lke this idea cuz it feels more like a party than a boring shower.

I AM SOOOO WITH YOU!! I did not want one either. My mother totally guilted me into it.....we would not want the family to say we did not have one
So I am just going to do my best to smile through it and be appreciative....

Re: Anyone NOT want a shower??
I hate going to showees, so I feel I shouldn't have one, & make people feel obligated to attend, but I thin my BMs are palnning one ( they are my cousins & my mom & grandma & aunts are probably insisting) They are not talking about it though, so I can't put in my requests for it to be an anti shower---no games, no bow hat or bouquet, preferable at someone's home, not inviting every single woman on the guest list, etc.

Yey!! I'm not alone!!!!
So here's my plan. FH and I are planning a backyard engagement party for this summer (we're getting married next summer) and it will be very casual and fun - food, drinks, volleyball - casual and fun,
Then, I think i am going to ask that my bachelorette party be a spa day and nix the shower.
Oh, I feel so much better now!

Re: Anyone NOT want a shower??
one more thing...
yeah, I HATE being invited to a shower for someone I barely know!!! Come on. That is just to get a gift. I think it is bull----.
I just got invited to one for my fh's friend's FW. I barely know her and its in CT. and I would know no one!! I'm not going!

I totally agree. I was guilted into registering by my gran amd mom. I hate the whole name glued on favors thing. Who thought of that?! I have so many stupid favors at home that I feel badly about throwing out. I'm scared to see what they are planning for me!

Re: Anyone NOT want a shower??
totally not into showers...
HOWEVER i am having one, but disguised as a 'bridal brunch'. small gathering (10-15 people) on a saturday afternoon at my godmother's house. no games, no gifts (actually that presented to be a problem as i was 'forced' to register by my friends), just food and booze
it'll be a good way for people to meet and my BM's to get fitted for their dresses!

For what its worth... my girl said she didn't want a shower either. But I don't know if she is just BSing me and doesn't want to admit it, or is really serious.

Re: Anyone NOT want a shower??
I don't want a shower either. What I want is the rehearsal dinner with the BP and our Out of Town guests.
Since FI and I are paying 100% for the entire wedding, I thought my parents would offer to pay for the RD. Well, they haven't and I had I guess what you could call a meltdown on my MOH.
After my meltdown, my MOH took charge and is organizing the RD and having the BP chip in, instead of doing the shower or the bachelorate/bachelor parties.
The RD is something I really want and I am so happy and relieved she took charge. I am really disappointed in my parents, but I guess I have to get over it.

I sooooooo know how you feel. My girl's family aint donating a DIME to this wedding so we are paying for the wedding ourselves as well.
My parents offered to help us out, either pay for a RD, or whatever we need. I told my mom and dad that I felt bad taking money from them becase I don't think its fair since the bride's family aint doing jack. My mom still said, 'well you are still our son and we will help out however you can.' I thanked them... but I am still debating how I am going to handle this situation.
