Anyone not wild about there FMIL

I don't know about anyone else but I'm not crazy about my FMIL I try to make the best out of it cause after all she comes with the package - I wanted to have a good relationship with her -Being that she has no daughters I wanted to involve her with the wedding stuff - but she just gets under my skin!

If anyone else is running into the same thing I would love to know how your dealing with it!

All I have to say is join the club...

The way I deal with her is to not see her too often.

Lets just say I think I could call FFIL 'Dad' but FMIL will never be 'Mom'. I am always polite and respectful, but she is just not a warm person. I think she resents the fact that I am marrying her only son and she will no longer have what I affectionately call 'her workhorse'.

i think we have a love/hate relationship. i mean we get along, i call her 'ma.' but she doesn't like when i open my mouth about 'her' family. its sooooo much drama and she likes to play the victim. she loves to talk about bad news and loves it when people feel sorry for her.

overall, we get along, for right now. lets see how things change when we get married

I love my FFIL too - he is great I could talk to him for hours - and I would never be nasty to her because I love my FH - but even he tells me not to get my self upset and just don't listen to anything she says - After we got engaged My parents invited them over - she didn't respond and called my mom 3 mts. later -just told my mother sorry the phone call is late thanks for throwing the kids an E-party were happy there engaged -Ok C-ya -

That brought it to a new level - Its one thing to do something to me its another thing to do it to my mother -

Sorry that she's like that. I love my FMIL she's really sweet. But also she doesn't speak much English. Maybe that's a good thing.

...don't get me started...

I do the same thing...call FFIL 'dad'...FH can not even call her 'mom'.

Re: Anyone not wild about there FMIL

Im there with you. I have been with FH for 4 yrs. and we have 5 kids all together(two together)and just like you I tried getting close to her because she has no daughters and for awhile I thought I was closer to her then my own family...Until her true colors came out when FH's brother married in May. She makes up stories, pits everyone against each other and has now gone so far as to call me a bad mother to FH...funny how FSIL made remarks of the same(she's a nanny with no kids). Now the woman who FMIL complained about and called names and swore would never last with FBIL(who still comes to the house almost everyday to cry about how he hates being married to her and he's leaving her )is FMIL's best buddy. That's okay though I live downstairs but havent spoken to her since the comment back in December and I like it this way. She doesnt even know we are getting married in Vegas this June Be civilized to her when you need to see her but make yourself scarce and dont try so hard anymore!

Re: Anyone not wild about there FMIL

my FMIL is nice and would do anything for me but she is a hypochondriac...every time I talk to her i get a list of all her ailments and how many times she's gone to the doctor and what medicines she is on. FH is her only child and I wanted to include her in the plans, like coming with me to look at dresses, but she has a big mouth and i'm afraid she'll slip and tell him what my dress looks like. I say just grin and bear it.

My problem is the FSIL...shes 17...and man is she a typical teenager..Ive tried everything to get her to talk to me....nothing works..LOL...im done everything i go out of my way to talk to her, and to buy her things when i see something that makes me think of her...but nothing.....ugggggg I try....but if i dont get a response in another 2 months...i give up!!!

SO i feel your pain....

Oh honey I am sorry that's horrible - Esp. cause there are kids involved - I have a feeling she will get worse when we have kids -
That's what I do I make my self scarce

Lets just say that we dont have the best relationship at all. When she does try to be nice its so fake. Right now I just avoid going to her house all together so that I do not have to talk to her. Things have been so much better since I started that.

That's all I have to say. LOL

No, but seriously, ask anyone here, you don't even want to get me STARTED on my in laws. I don't know how long you have been with FH and in contact with his parents, but usually it gets better with time...it may take years for you to figure out how to deal with each other, but you will.

I love my FMIL .My Mom was away for 4 months and when I got engaged my mom wasn't here. I asked my FMIL to come with me to look at catering halls and she was so helpful. She gave me her opinion but always said it was my decision and my wedding.
She is super!!!!!
