Anyone only doing a cockatil reception?

Hi ladies!

I love all the advice you girls give!

Anyone doing just a cocktail reception?? I'm starting to think about doing an evening cocktail reception-something that would still be 4 or 5 hours but instead of doing a formal sit down dinner; just passing food through out the entire event and letting people eat what and when they choose and having open bar. The more I research different halls and their wedding packages-the more I realize I just don't want a structured night. I want to enjoy myself and of course I don't want to break the bank!

So I'm just trying to get an idea of what options are out there other than a typical sit down dinner reception.

Thanks!

I'm not going to have a cocktail reception, but I have heard of girls who have done that. I think that it's a really nice idea because it's different than the typical reception.

FH is puerto rican and the last 2 weddings in his family that i went to were cocktail receptions with also a hot buffet. I LOVED it!!! I didnt end up going with it b/c we got a deal at my RH but I think it is a great idea. Gives people a chance to move around and mingle. It was still formal but relaxed, you know?

That's exactly what I'm looking for.

I want my guest to be able to enjoy their evening and not be stuck at a table eating dinner. I was reading in a magazine about doing a tasting menu throughout the evening as opposed to a set 1 1/2 hour meal time. This is definitely something I'll have to research further! THanks!
