Anyone order a whole garden from www.springhillnursery

Original post by Valentinegirl

I was looking at those ready made gardens. They look easy and very pretty. How does it work? They mail you the plants and you plant them?

I cancelled my whole order and they refunded me for what was already sent.

I asked what the problem was, they said they had a long winter and not a great spring so far, that's why things are smaller or not ready to be shipped yet.

In general things will be smaller, so they ship easier and are lighter.

Maybe I would have not cancelled my order if I already had exsisting plants and just wanted to plant around the exsisting. But we ripped everything out and are starting from scratch!

p.s. I also ordered a 'grab bag' - they sent a root, so I wonder how many of the 30 plants in the garden I ordered would also be a root?

Do you have any idea how much full grown mature bushes like the ones pictured would cost you?

I don't even know if they would survive the shipping!

This is the size that any nursery I have dealt with sends, depending on the plant/flower they will bloom over the spring and summer, maybe not till end summer. My butterfly bush isn't even out of the ground yet... you have to give it time, now is the right time for planting. Well after mothers day as I've always been told. They usually ship at the right time for planting otherwise they would not make it.

Alot of flowers and plants are roots or tubers, you have to get them in the ground and they will bloom.

ETA: That Crape Myrtle, it says its shipped in a 4' pot.

Here is a Clematis I bought today, granted it is a vine.... it will be about 10 feet with blooms by July.

I have used breacks for bulbs and a few perenials so far this year and they have been great - and grow fairly fast....they have lots of coupons out there, right now i think there big one if the $25 off a $50 order....

i ordered perennials last year from them. they are very very very tiny. but i planted them, and this year they came back nice and strong, and bigger. if you go to a nursery in your town you can spend a little more money and get larger plants for the first year. i would recommend doing that instead. you can even take the list from spring hill and find the same exact plants at your nursery. again, they'll be more expensive, but bigger in the first year. remember, by the third year, perennials will be huge, so space accordingly.
