I have a Golf and I hate it...this morning on the way to work my window dropped!! This is the second time this has happened. The last time they tolf me it could happen at any time so keep a plastic nag handy!
Since I had had to car (its 2 years old) I can't tell you how many times I have been at the damn shop!
Apparently any VW made prior to 2003 have plastic clips holding the window up and they can snap at any time...especially in the cold!!
Newer models have metal clips!!

I never had any issues with my 94 Jetta, we had it for 7 years and 120K miles ...
DH just sold his 98 Passat to his niece and he never had any issues with it either.

I don't own one but I have heard of that happening to two of my friends. One owns a Passat and the other a Jetta. DH owns a Jetta but so far has never had a problem.

my husbands windows dropped on all windows twice it has cost me over $1000 to get them fixed now we just use 2 of them and the other two are on child lock. we use it as a station car now.

I have a 93 Jetta that I love, no problems. I have heard of this issue though on my friend's Passat & older Jetta.

Hi Beautyq, You know I have a jetta and hate it..It's always getting recalled and just recently, victor went to park it. The front or bumper of the car went slightly over the cement boulder thingy in the parking space. When he went to reverse, it ripped the bumper off on one side. My bumper was hanging off of my car on the right side.
Thankfully, nothing is wrong with my windows, YET!!!
IMO. VW makes their cars very crappy..everything is made of plastic..

I own a beautiful 69 Volkswagon bus..hippie style! I havent driven it in a few years though, the motor blew and its just been sitting. We planned to fix it up and make it our beach mobile, but now I am going to sell it , or try to sell it to help pay for our adoption!

I cant agree about VWs being made crappy because I know tooo many people like those who posted here that their cars have 100K++ miles! There are alot of cars out there that dont last THAT long!

I had a 99 jetta, and I had the most annoying problems wiht it ever....both oxygen sensor went, and about two months after getting them replaced, they were re-called!!! Then the check engine light went on and three mechanics had no idea why, so I took it to VW they just turned it off, and it came back on a week later!!!! UGH!!!

I have a 2001 VW and I haven't had many problems. I did have a window get stuck (didn't drop though) and they replaced all of the plastic clips with metal ones (not just the one that broke) and told me it was a recall thing, so it was free.
So far, it has been a good car. No major issues. If anything I have had less trouble with my VW than DH has had with his BMW of the same year.
I have had good experiences with servicing at Smithtown VW

I bought a 2001 Jetta that I had that window problem with as well as a couple of other things (like the check engine light coming on even if nothing was wrong). Then I traded it in for a 2003 (longer warranty, lower payment) and so far I've had no problems with this one. The problems started with the other pretty much at the one year mark so I may be speaking too soon.
I love my Jetta but I don't think I'll buy another Volkswagen once I'm done with this one.

I have two...A 2002 Jetta and 2002 Passat...hate them both. Leases are up and I'm getting a Nissan Pathfinder and a Honda Accord.

I have a 2002 Cabrio - so far so good - knock on wood. Although the interior on the doors is cheap and is peeling. Otherwise its run OK.
Hopefully it will last a while, and its fun to put the top down in the summer.
