Yes, I haven't seen nearly as much of either candidate as I'd like. (Though I'm partial to Kerry/Edwards). I think it's going to be interesting.

Re: Anyone planning on watching the VP debate?
What did everyone think of the debate? I agree with the news. There was no clear winner. Cheney tried to mop the floor with Edwards; he was very commanding, but Edwards held his own. They both got on my nerves, insisting on going back to 3 questions ago instead fo answering the current question, etc.

I think it's sad that people felt that the yankee game was more important than the debate. it definitely says something about our priorities as a society.

Re: Anyone planning on watching the VP debate?
Honestly, I am a pretty political person, and I did intend to flip back & forth. The thing is I have made up my mind about who I am voting for, and I can get pieces of the debate on the internet while I am at work.
And I did see quite a few different news reports this morning (I watch the news every morning from 5:30 - 8) and I felt that Edwards held his own & I don't think Cheney was successful in undermining Edwards by proving his inexperience will be a fault in the Kerry/Edwards administration.
Since the election is not today, I think it is ok to look back to the debate, JMHO

I don't think it's 'sad' that people would rather watch a Yankees playoff game. By now, most informed voters know the issues and where each candidate stands...so no need to watch a debate if they already know whose ideas they support. JMO

I think it's sad that the Yankees could not bring any of the 8 or so players home that they left on base!! ...but that's for a different thread...
I flipped between the debate and the game, but from what I did see of the debate and what I read in the news today..it seems it was a draw. I don't know if their performances will necessarily sway undecided voters....

Re: Anyone planning on watching the VP debate?
Definitely. I guess I'm just griping about it because I have to laugh, my sister was trying to watch it at work, and then they changed it to the yankee game. So many people just don't care and they really do think the yankee game is more important, even though that ahs no effect on our lives at all, except whether we'll have a tickertape parade.

That's a different story. If she wanted to watch it & then couldn't that's not fair to her. It is unfortunate in that case.

Re: Anyone planning on watching the VP debate?
I thought the first 40 minutes - when all of the questions were about Iraq, Cheney was the winner - I don't agree with his Iraq policy, but I thought he was more skilled in presenting percentages/figures/facts, etc. in the 2 minutes. I thought after the first 40 minutes or so that Edwards was in trouble.
Then when the debate switched to domestic policy I thought Edwards started to catch up with Cheney. I didnt think that Cheney really answered many of the questions about job losses/health care, etc since so much has gone wrong during the last 4 years.
I thought Cheney appeared very tired at the end, though still focused. I don't agree with his policies but I can respect him as an elder stateman - but c'mon, stop the slouching!! and don't cover your microphone with your hands!!!
All in all - I'd say no definitive winner. . . and I dont think it made much of a difference in either campaign.

I agree, I think Bush will win because as a nation our priorities are on important things like baseball and who Paris Hilton sleeps with instead of the Constitution and corruption in our election process.

Re: Anyone planning on watching the VP debate?
The opinions that I was left with following the Vice Presidential debate was .. Cheney seems much more together than Bush .. the difference between the two in their debates is amazing .. Bush almost seems in a fog and unable to think for himself .. Cheney is very clear on what he says, and says it. That presentation fact alone scares me .. if Bush can't think for himself on his feet in a debate .. how can he think for himself behind closed doors???? Especially on major issues???? What I find sad is when a Vice President has to do damage control for the President.
And while I have known for quite awhile who I want to vote for .. I was still interested in what these guys (all four of them) have to say in their debates as the election draws closer. The more I hear from Kerry/Edwards .. the more I like .. and I've been saying that for months now.
The war in Iraq and on terror is what it is .. and I don't like the current situation (no way this thing is 'mission accomplished') .. global issues are what they are .. and I don't like the current situations there either (N. Korea & Iran building nukes) .. and the domestic issues are what they are (horrendous - too many layoffs, too many families struggling to get by) .. and I certainly DO NOT approve of where Bush is headed with his flat-tax plan - NO WAY .. eliminate my mortgage interest deduction??!! .. NO WAY .. I'd rather the Bush administration take back their pathetic tax break!!
Send in John Kerry, please.

i wonder if the ratings came out yet baseball vs. the debate?

Re: Anyone planning on watching the VP debate?
it would be hard b/c it was on 3 network stations & many cable stations, while the Yankee game was just on one station (I think)

Re: Anyone planning on watching the VP debate?
it's funny
if you look at politics vs. sports
when clinton was going to be impeached, a major event in US history with a major potential impact, the hearing was held on a saturday and CBS cut into a major Jet playoff game to provide coverage. CBS got bombarded with calls from angry jet fans and they had to put the game back
and i'll guarantee that in NY a major democratic hub, more people watched the yankee game.
yet, in 1994, they took the basketball playoffs off the air, with the knicks in the playoffs to show coverage of the OJ Simpson Bronco chase down the highway
confusing

I'm confused by this comment. Are you saying that anyone who votes for Bush has misplaced priorities or poor judgment?
If so, I think that is rude. I might not agree with you politically, but I respect opposing viewpoints. I do not see a need to insult people's judgment or intelligence because they happen to be on the opposite side of the political spectrum.

Its not that I think it is more important, its that I already know who I am voting for and don't really feel the need to watch the VICE presidents debate!!!
