Anyone print their own invitations?

Anyone print their own invitations?

Just wondering if anyone has printed their own invites. What's the secret!?! I've been trying to print my own and cant seem to do it.

I have to position the invite in the center of my printer and when I do that it eats my invite and usually prints it sideways.

Can anyone help!?

does your printer have one of those sliding bars that can position it where the paper goes...mine has a bar that if im printing something smaller i can just slide it over and it helps! the paper goes in straight that way

No...I think I'm going to invest in one though. I'm sure I'll be getting a lot of use out of it from everything that I've been printing for the wedding...lol

Really, what type of printer do you have?

I printed mine and didn't have a problem, but I have the slide to position the paper

We actually had to download a program from a website. We bought the cards from ac moore. It centers the invite for you so the printer knows how to do it correctly. Its hard to explain.

I am thinking of printing my own invitations also to save money since my photographer was sooo much! What website did you down load the program from? Thanks!

we did-we got the invites from AC moore and on the boxes they show the name of the company website. You go there and it walks you through; you type in the item number you're using from the box. Then it takes you to the download page. They are downloads for MS word; you can customize the font and all of that. Really simple. Unfrtunately I dont have pics of ours Our photographer didn't take any!

did you go into page setup and change the size of the paper to match what you are using? also check if you have landscape or portrait specified that might be why it's turned and you need to feed it in the center.

One word of advice - be careful with the kind of printer (ink jet or laser) and paper. I bought an ink jet (i think? actually, don't quote me on that b/c we went back and forth between them and i can't recall exactly which it was, and now i'm at my parent's house not at home).

whichever one it was, I decided to use my mother's surprise bday party as an oppty to test out the printer and invitation situation.

Problems:
-mine had the slidey thing, and the invites still came out ever so slightly crooked. (could have been me though)
-there must have been traces of ink left somewhere along the way b/c the invites had very light imprints of from the prior invitation on the top of the next invite. I tossed several b/c they were too smudged but sent some that were 'not so bad' but not perfect.

this could have been due to either the printer or the paper (didn't test with real wedding quality invites).

You might want to talk to a graphic artist friend (or even someone at work) to get their advice on printing and ink and paper, etc. I may do that myself. I am not sure yet what I'm doing about invites...

Good luck :)

Thanks for the info. It seems like lots of people try to do their own invites to save money. I can't see spending $1000 to have a place do them. I will try myself and see what happens!

I didn't print my invites, but I did print my envelopes and my printer kept chewing them up too, until I figured out I had to hand-feed each one through the printer one at a time. I don't know if that might help. Good luck!
