anyone putting fine china on registry?

anyone putting fine china on registry?

Went to BBB today and scanned one (5pc) Lenox dining set. The girls helping us kindly informed us that a 5pc set is for ONE person?!?
and they recommend us ordering for 12 settings.
I have been living with FH for over 1yr (dating 3) and as long as I have known him I have never had the need for using this. At $120 a person (setting) is it worth it? I mean it will probably go in storage for many months...

I would have, because I have everyday and would love some new fine. But I have fine in my family passed down from Nana. I have always loved it. She passed in May and it will be nice to have a part of her with me. She used it as her everyday.

We didn't. We do not have the need for fine china, so we registered for Noritake everyday wear.
The guy we had said if we don't entertain much no sense in getting fine china.

I'm going to, but only because I do plan on entertaining. I went to a bridal shower this past weekend and the bride basically got all sets I believe. Enough people bought one or two sets that she got most of it.

I am. We're renting now but when we buy I'm looking forward to having friends and family over for the holidays and would love to use it. Maybe even for our anniversary dinner!

I only registered for 4 sets even though they recommended 12 at BBB. I figure after the 4 I can add to it as time goes by. Maybe a new setting or two per year?

They have nice china where you can get settings for 8 people for only $200... so instead of $200 on 1 person getting to eat... you can get 8 place settings for the same amount. look at those.

I didn't. I never cook or entertain.

My aunt even joked about buying me a lifetime supply of paper plates b/c she knows we never really eat at home.

Hell no. I got china when i was married years ago. I used it once. I hate it now and cant freaking sell it. Waste of money and space

I went with the lenox simply fine which is 100 a setting and they can be used every day but are a better quality and can go in the dishwasher and microwave

hope that helps

I did. I plan on hosting Easter beginning next year and think it would be nice to have fancy china for it.

I did...I registered for Lenox at Macy's...unforunately my shower is in a week and a half and my Macy's registry still has everything on it. No one has bought me the china or crystal. My BBB with everyday stuff is pretty much empty tho.

I put 12 place settings on my registry and no one dipped into it at my engagement party so I decided to take it off. It's prob a waste.

we are not doing fine china. We are just registering for dinnerware that is nice enough for formal dinners and casual enough for every day use.

Re: anyone putting fine china on registry?

I had wanted to by my mom convinced me not to. It's very expensive (especially for the ones I like) and people may or may not buy it. If they buy some, you are left with partial sets and have to fork over $$$$$ to finish the set, or they buy it for you and don't buy you the things you really want.
We really want a wine fridge, a stand mixer and a bunch of attachments, everyday plates, good non stick cookware (since we have a good set of stainless), good knives, and nice set of stainless flatware. So with all that (plus other stuff I'll register for that's cheaper) we didn't think there would be room for fine china. Besides, there are a few rarely used sets floating around our families that we hope will be donated to us when we buy a house!

i don't want china and did not register for it. i like everyday dishes ... and if i ever have family come over, i'll just use that! i see no need for china.

also, in FH and my small apartment, we have no room to store it.

if you want it, it's not a problem to register for $120 per setting china ... but if you don't want it, don't get it

Re: anyone putting fine china on registry?

Many family members asked me why I didn't put on fine china--they wanted to buy it for me. I didn't put it on but I inherited my aunt's Lenox.

Don't be worried about the price because people will want to buy it for you; however, if you have other things you need more/right now, I'd put those on and have people purchase those things instead.

I put it on bc MIL wanted us to.

no one bought a single piece. at all! haha!

I guess it's good to put on and see what you get. And who knows maybe they will buy you pieces of it throughout the years as like christmas etc gifts. I'm assuming I still won't get any of it.
