If you want to make great pizza at home, definitely pick one up.
Baking stones retain heat and absorb moisture, which produces crispier, drier pizzas, breads, and calzones.
but you can never get them wet..
You can get them wet - you just can't use soap. When you're finished cooking, just scrape off any food residue and then run warm water over it and let it air dry.
I should explain: I have a first generation pizza stone (got it about 13 years ago).... it seems thing have improved since mine was made! Mine you can't get wet AT ALL. GIANT warning labels on the box. I think it would crack in half

You just have to be careful about how you use it...like, if you are putting chicken fingers on it ( I do all the time - healthier in the oven than fried, and not soggy when cooked on the stone), you want to spread them out, like spokes on a tire, to distribute the heat evenly.
Also...once, I had it in the oven, preheated the oven, then put frozen stuff on it...CRACK...broke into like, 12 pieces...you can't do that - have to put cold stuff on a cold stone, & let it heat up together....sounds like a pain in the @$$, but after a while, you don't even think about it - you'll just know what to do and what not to do....
