Anyone see Dear Abby a couple of days ago? I'm sure we all have feelings about this letter!
DEAR ABBY: My niece is getting married in two months, and our invitations just arrived. My daughter, who was divorced last month, was invited with no 'and guest' after her name. Who knows? In the next two months she might meet someone she'd like to take to the wedding.
Would it be tacky to respond 'two' and see what happens? Or should she take her wounded heart and not go at all? The family knows about her divorce but still addressed her that way. -- KEEPING OPTIONS OPEN

Really??? Why even assume the husband would've been invited? What was the response to that because I totally missed it, but would love to see it!

I didn't see the article but my sister is going through a divorce & if she's not seeing someone 2 months before my wedding then I'd address her invite to her and her only. I don't think that person was being rude at all.

Maybe they are on a strict budget and if you are not in an established relationship then no guest invite was being given?....i dunno

My cousin is going through a divorce and as of right now I'm not planning on putting 'and guest' on her invite. If she's not seriously dating anyone I don't see why a guest needs to be invited.

I am having the same issue but with a friend of FH. Fh friend lost his wife like 2 years ago, hasnt dated anyone and has many issues.
We told him what we were doing about the and guest for some people and explain to him he wasn't getting a guest. He started to yell and got very upset? He told us himself that he cant date anyone because he not mentally ready. His son will be at the wedding and there is many people he knows there.
People need to understand and stop sucking LOL

Some people think that they are doing YOU a favor by showing up at the first place and that if they don't have the option of bringing a date, then it's somehow offensive to them. Seriously though, people need to re-think that. I mean... really... who WANTS to spend tens of thousands of dollars to invite your 'casual date' to the wedding?

We are only giving a plus one for someone who is not in a serious relationship if they would not really know anyone else at the wedding.

I would almost feel more uncomfortable giving them a plus one because they might feel the need to find someone to bring etc right after their divorce.
eta: certain people are going to find things to complain about no matter what. in this situation, i could see this aunt being offended if her daughter did get a plus one.. 'who could she possibly think my daughter would be bringing?! she is well aware of the divorce'

This exactly too... I dont need or want any flavors of the week at my wedding, nor do I need or want to pay for any flavors of the week to be at my wedding!

I think this person just wants something to complain about. What did Abby say?
I do have one better! What do you do when a bride asks you NOT to bring your significant other, after you've been together for 3 years and she put 'and guest' on the invite. Apparently my friend had more people reply 'yes' than she wanted, and started asking all of her friends to come stag about 3 weeks before the wedding.

Well since she already has too many people, she shouldn't care too much when most of her friends whose serious SOs were uninvited inform her that they're not coming either!

I didn't go. I told her I really didn't feel comfortable coming alone since I wouldn't know many people there. She got real snotty with me and didn't send a thank-you for the shower or wedding gift. So, I pretty much didn't speak to her again after that.

I don't know a funny, awk and new situation like this, I would invite with a guest. I am not inviting people with guests unless they are in a serious relationship.
