I love Viggo as Aragorn...but whenever I see him as himself...he creeps me out...lol - I guess its the hair

That's how I feel about Orlando Bloom!!! He is so gorgeous as the elf warrior Legolas, (that long blonde mane of hair really gets me going!), but in real life he kind of looks like a bumb. Although he was pretty cute in Pirates of the Carribean!

I love Legolas...

DH and I will always say Habalda Legolas 'calm down legolas' from the first one...

he was also the kid that fell out of the helicopter in black hawk down...

We saw it last night. I'm probably in the minority that didn't think it was any better than the previous 2. Don't misunderstand me, I think they're amazing movies, but the 3rd one seemed to be much of the same as the 1st two. The ending bothered me. I just felt it was too drawn out and kind of cheesy.

I have to admit, I wasn't in the mood to sit and watch any 3+ hour movie yesterday, but my DH was psyched to go see it. It didn't help that the theater was filled with kids and the woman sitting next to me brought her 6 year old daughter! That little girl definitely had nightmares last night! Who brings a 6 year old to sit in a theater for 4 hours!?!?! (3+ for the movie and 30 minutes of previews)

This is the exact reason I hate going to the movies. I can't stand when people talk, etc. I tell Steve all the time we have a 61 inch TV with surround sound, why do I ever have to go to the movies?

ETA: Plus I can pause to go pee

I hate the tiny seat!!!

****spoiler (even for those who read the book)****

jenny I felt the same as you - it was great - but the same caliber as the other 2...

what I was upset about (for those who have read the book) was that when they returned to the Shire - it was fine...Sarumon had taken over the Shire and the Hobbits (after saving Middle Earth) were left to fight for their land that they had set out to save in the first place...so there was no Sarumon defeat...and the Hobbits never faught for the Shire...

DH disagrees and thinks it could be left out...but the dragged on so much at the end...I think there was more than enough time...I would hope for it in the extended version...but I just don't think it will be in there either...

speaking of talkers in the movie theater...when Eowyn stood up to the Nasgurth (sp?) the woman behind me says 'oh yeah she's dead' - I wanted to turn around and say No she's not!!!!

Peter Jackson didn't film it, and I'd say it's for good reason. Even when I was reading the book I wanted to tear out those pages where they fight for the shire. It's just so Anti-climactic. And the end of the movie dragged on enough as it was. This coming from someone who loved the movies (and the books) and is going to see RotK again on Christmas (someone has to take my Dad!).

I agree with you. I wish he could have emphasized on the growing friendship between Gimli and Legolas. It would have been cool too if they also showed when Sam, Gimli and Legolas sailed to the Undying lands. But oh well it will just drag on to much =)

Now I wish they will film The hobbit. And then make a mini-series of The Silmarillion so I will have something to look forward to next year hehehehe ....

I agree that it was as 'exciting' as the rest of the book...but I felt that they had saved EVERYONE, and then they came home to still fight another battle...I just thought it showed the strengh of the hobbits even more...(although I thought they showed it so well with Sam carrying Frodo up Mt Doom)

and they never ended things with Saruman...they just left him with Treebeard

What do you guys think about this: DH was infuriated at this part in the first movie:

when Frodo is stabbed and is becoming a wrath...in the book he was put on the horse by himself and (again the strength of the Hobbits) he rode to Rivendell...holding on and running from the other wraths...

DH hated that they had Arwyn ride with him...like it was her that got frodo to Rivendell...

Re: anyone seen Return of the King yet?

I am also sad that they left out the growing romance of Eowyn and Faromir in the House of Healing.
They spend so much of the movie showing her doting over Aragorn (who can blaim her), but they don't show how she finds the man that she is really meant to be with, etc.

OH well, I guess they just can't fit it all in.

Re: anyone seen Return of the King yet?

mims...I thought about that too...but I guess they had to cut out some parts...the only thing they show is at the coronation of Aragorn that Eowyn and Faramir are standing next to each other looking very happy...

hopefully there will be more in the extended version

Re: anyone seen Return of the King yet?

I haven't seen the extended version of two towers yet (hope to get it for Christmas) but to me, its worth it to sit an extra amount of time to see the other scenes.
I do understand, though, how they have to cut the scenes down for the general public

P.S. the Saruman and Shire thing bugged me too, but I think they also added some scenes that either I don't remember or are new..

for example when Pippin climbs up and lights the beacon and it spreads across the land beacon to beachon.. I loved that scene, but I NEVER read anything like that before.. is it me?

Re: anyone seen Return of the King yet?

yeah...I don't remember that in the book either...but it could have been someone else and Jackson changed it to a character we know...like how Elrond brought the sword to Aragorn...when in the book it was really Elrond's sons...

the extended version of 2 towers is awesome!!! there are scenes that i was definitely pissed about that were missing!! you will be pleased!!!

Re: anyone seen Return of the King yet?

I just have to say that I LOVED Return of the King!! I think it was my favorite. These movies have all been so incredible, and I loved every single second of them all!! I walked out of the theater wanting to name my future daughter Eowyn. I loved her character.

And I now have Aragorn as my desktop wallpaper... I can't help myself he is just so delicious.

I tried to read the books but just couldn't get through them. Did anyone else have this problem? And I'm a big 'reader' too, so I don't really know why I had so much trouble with them.

Re: anyone seen Return of the King yet?

We went to see it and loved it.
I want the Two Towers for Xmas to watch the missing parts.

The ending of this was so very much dragged out it was a bit odd. Im sure a lot got left out from this one.

I read all the books Hobbit through just before the first movie came out. Im sort of glad I haven't re-read them since. I have a sense and feel for the real story and still it's not so fresh that Im judging the movie too harshly for not staying with it exactly. I noticed the parts missing. ALL the parts about Gemli & legolas (sp?) growing friendship are missing. Even down the final headcount. You expect some artisitic freedom from book to film.

Overall though this was a great series and so much that I will NEVER be able to think of the Lord of the Rings series via film in ANY other format. I've seen the cartoon versions and so forth but none come close. This is a classic series.

I really do hope they let him do Hobbit. But he wants to bring back all the same actors to keep continuity. Gandalf and Bilbo, etc. I think it would be great.
