Anyone sing at their wedding?

Anyone sing at their wedding?

I am toying with the idea of singing a song at my wedding reception as a surprise for my hubby...and possibly playing acoustic guitar if I am brave enough....

Has anyone out there done something like this? Does it sound too cheesy? I don't want people laughing at me at my own wedding...

And WHAT ON EARTH WOULD I SING? I don't want something too sappy...HELP!

If I could sing...I would! My Dad sang at my sister's wedding and it was a huge hit

I think thats a really sweet and personal idea!!!

At my friends wedding, she didn't sing, but our best friend is an amazing singer and sang her wedding song. I think it adds a personal touch, that really makes your wedding stand out!

Re: Anyone sing at their wedding?

I have been asked to sing at a few family occasions, but none in the last 5 or 6 years. Prior to that I sang at my grandparents' 50th anniversary, my cousin's wedding, a memorial service for my godmother, and at my sister's wedding.

However, at one of those occasions, I overheard my aunt say 'Oh, she sings at EVERYTHING, Paul's girlfriend sings too you know' like she was irritated about it or something...It wasn't exactly what she said, but HOW she said it - it kindof took the wind out of my sails, and I haven't sang since.

I just wanted to add that I didn't volunteer to sing at these occasions, so it wasn't like I was trying to show-off - I was ASKED to sing... What to do, what to do...

But it's your wedding! If there is one function that you sing at again then it should be this! If you can sing then totally do it!!!!!!!! Does your FH like it when you sing? That's all that really matters

I was toying with the idea as well but I think it would make me extremely nervous because I get such stage fright. So I would be nervous about the wedding AND the singing - I dont think I could do that!

My friend sang at her wedding and she had me BAWLING. It was such a sweet touch. She sang 'Someone like You' by Van Morrison. She also sang at my wedding Michael Buble's 'Everything.'

I didn't want to dedicate a song to him, but I wanted to sing random songs, like karaoke! But, I didn't get to do it.

I think its a great idea though. :) I don't know what song you could sing. You don't want to pick something to pitchy and hard/advanced if you aren't really a singer.

I would go with something that you know already, and know you can sing pretty well. :)

Re: Anyone sing at their wedding?

I sang at our wedding. I sang 'If I Ain't Got You' by Alicia Keys.

If you can sing and you are used to singing in front of people - go for it. (I used to be in a wedding band, so for me it was easy)

if you are planning to drink a bit or have never sang live with a band, I would reconsider. Or at least get a rehearsal in with the band before the day.

Good Luck!
