Re: Anyone skipping favors?
I was going to, but my FH's aunt is going to make these brazillian candy type things that I love, so we are using those as favors. otherwise I wasn't going to do them. We may also do a donation- thats always nice to do instead of favors and then let the guests know about it- maybe we will attach a note to the candies.

Re: Anyone skipping favors?
I am making a donation to the FDNY burncenter and giving small box of godiva choclate hearts to my guests.
my son is on FDNY and my wedding is close to 9/11. so to honor our fallen heros we thought it would be nice, my fmil is giving me greif saying we can not do that because the guests look for favors . you cant please every one !

Haha no you can't! But that is a very nice gesture and I think people will appreciate it more than a favor they will never use.

Re: Anyone skipping favors?
I would much prefer to go to a wedding where the bride and groom made a charitable donation as a gift, rather than give out favors. Honestly, I've never (not once) gotten a favor I use, and I could do without edible favors.
I think a donation favor is the best idea. We're doing that and probably also giving out something small and/or edible (probably something that will double as our place cards).
I'd be thrilled to go to a wedding where they favor was a donation... but maybe that's just me.
I personally don't think favors are necessary at all, though I'd prefer a donation to anything else.

no! I think a donation would be the best route to go if you don't want to bother with favors.

Re: Anyone skipping favors?
I refused to have any favors for a while. After way too many conversations about it, I have conceded to doing a donation favor with a little chocolate attached.
I don't know the last time I went to a wedding and 'looked' for the favor. I swear it's a generational thing

We're doing a donation too. We got engaged at the Bronx Zoo so a donation to the Wild Life Conservation fit perfectly. I've only used a few favors from all of the dozens of weddings i've been to in my life (an ice cream scoop & a wine stop/wine opener) so we thought the donation would be the way to go.
But I think a nice favor can be a great way to add some personalization to the wedding.....

I promise you, if I went to a wedding where there was no favor, I wouldn't even notice.
Without fail, every wedding I go to, I see the favor, and I'm like 'Oh, huh. Look at that, a favor!'
Like I said, we're doing a donation + something else, possibly edible, possibly tied to our place cards (like the photo coasters...)

Re: Anyone skipping favors?
My mom says that there are no favors at Jewish weddings, so I was considering not doing them because who needs the extra expense. But I am under the impression that my fmil (not Jewish) thinks we should.

This isnt true at all. My mothers side of the family is Jewish and every one of them gave favors out at their weddings.
Personally, I kind of think its rude not to give favors out. Favors are a way of thanking your guests for taking the time and expense to share in your special day.

Actually, traditionally favors are NOT given out at Jewish weddings - and that is true.
It's more common to see it nowadays, as many modern Jewish wedding break from traditions but traditionally, there are no favors at Jewish weddings... and many still follow this.

I am probably not doing favors. I am feeding people, giving them an open bar, and providing a band. What more do they want?!
