Anyone skipping favors?

Re: Anyone skipping favors?

Our centerpieces are doubling as favors. We are having simple vases in the middle of the table with 3 gerbers in each. Around that will be 8 or so frames (most of them were bought at DOLLAR TREE or AMAZING SAVINGS and are gorgeous but NOT pricey at all) with photos of us. They will serve as convo pieces for people who never met us or havent seen us in years. At the end of the night, whoever wants to can divy up the frames. We figrued they might actually use those again as opposed to the monogramed stuff we as a couple always throw out.

Someone always needs a picture frame unless they are a totally friendless/familyless curmudgen! :)

My mom says that there are no favors at Jewish weddings, so I was considering not doing them because who needs the extra expense. But I am under the impression that my fmil (not Jewish) thinks we should.

This isnt true at all. My mothers side of the family is Jewish and every one of them gave favors out at their weddings.

Personally, I kind of think its rude not to give favors out. Favors are a way of thanking your guests for taking the time and expense to share in your special day.

no offense, but isn't feeding them and paying for unlimited top shelf drinks enough of a thank you?

For what I'm paying per person, I'd be pretty offended if anybody said that I wasn't treating my guests well and thanking them for coming!

Personally, I'm doing donation favors, perhaps with some chocolate kisses attached (I really liked the idea I saw, I think on here, of giving a hershey's kiss and hershey's hug with a note that says 'A hug and a kiss from the bride and groom') But really, all I'm definitely doing is the donation, and that's really more because I just feel that with all of the waste and expense that goes into a wedding, it's only right to remember on that day that much of the world isn't exactly able to celebrate like that.

I'm doing a donation. i remember the first wedding I went to with this as a favor and I honestly thought it was the greatest thing! I'm also giving all small pic frames(which were $1 each)...but doubling those as seating cards and I'm giving out votives. Everything was cheap besides the donation. And to be quite honest...I would NEVER notice if I got a favor or not!!! And if I did...it wouldn't bother me. So, IMO, if you can't afford to...don't worry about it!!!!!

We're also doing a donation. I like knowing that the money is going to a good place, rather than on something my guests may throw away.

i think this thread is inspiring me even more to do a donation instead of buying favors.
And if you want to thank your guests I think a short and sweet speech at the end of the night would be very thoughtful.

I would like to do a donation favor....How much do you donate? Does anyone have a cute saying that you will use to inform your guests of this donation? Thanks for helping....

You can donate whatever you want - usually $1-2 per hear or more.

Some charities have scrolls they give you, or else you can print up your own with a cute saying or something like that.

FH's mom is beating breast cancer so we are making a donation to a breast cancer foundation.

Just responded to another thread about this. I am, I think they are a complete waste of $$. Ive never really appreciated/remembered a favor I got a wedding, spent the money on better stuff for the wedding.

i've been to a wedding without favors (conservative jewish couple). i didn't realize until much later that they didn't do favors. i only realized when i was trying to think back on what all my friends have done, so i didn't do the same thing. favors are just not something i look for, in fact i hate to admit it but I don't think i've ever enjoyed a favor- except for a full bottle of wine i once recieved. that was nice!

FH and I are donating to the ASPCA - we absolutely LOVE animals. I was a guest at a wedding a number of years ago and the couple gave a donation instead of favors. Ever since then I knew that's what I would do - I think it's the best idea ever.

The ASPCA told us we could donate however much we chose and they would provide us with note cards with a special saying already printed inside (as many as we need). I can't wait!!

a donation sounds like a great idea at this point! We have no idea what if any favors we are doing

We're thinking of doing a hot pretzel/bottled water pushcart at the end of the night for guests as they leave. It's about the same price as favors would be
