You should take pre-natal vitamins 6-8 weeks before 'trying' and if your in your 30's like me(ahem!) you should be taking Folic Acid as well.
I take prenatal vitamins already and we are hoping for HM baby but then again at anytime would be great with these ol' eggs!

what is the point of getting them? like how do they help you get pregnant?

Re: anyone taking prenatal vitamins?

If there's any chance you may get pregnant or are going to try soon, then it's not too early to start. I haven't taken them but I've gotten a prescription for Prenate DHA.

They don't necessarily help you get pregnant, but they do get your body in the best/healthiest shape for pregnancy, giving you extra nutrients that the baby 'depletes'.

They don't help you concieve. However they provide the fetus with the necessary supplements, specifically folic acid which helps prevent neural tube defects in early pregnancy. Ideally we want the embryo/fetus to get folic acid ASAP. Now the pnv have DHA which reportedly helps brain development. And some have a stool softner, cuz the iron is constipating. Plus vits in general are great for the body.

Ooooh aaaaand pnv do wonders for hair and nails!

Re: anyone taking prenatal vitamins?

I take a chewable prenatal my MD prescribed. Chewable because I can't swallow large pills! I also take fish oil (nautical naturals omega 3-6-9) because that isn't in the chewables. I went off the pill 3 weeks ago and have about 3 1/2 months until the wedding. I've been on the pill for about 11-12 yrs now so I wanted to see how long it takes for me to get normal. i also signed up with mymonthlycycles.com to track when I menstruate and ovulate - and if I'll have my period for the wedding and HM!

Re: anyone taking prenatal vitamins?

my doc put me on them last october. she prescribed Prenate DH . im awful at rembering to take them, probably cuz i know they are HUGE and i dont want to swallow them.
anyway, you can go on them at any time, it helps get your body ready for pregnancy and like a prev pposter mentioned, its very important to take in th ebeginning stages of pregnancy.
