anyone tired of stressing gover buying a house and......
are not going to worry about it anymore? weve finally come to the decision that we are not going to be able to buy a house for a little while. We have a decent amount saved but no where near what is needed for a downpayment. we decided that dont want to live in suffolk where houses are a little cheaper (not much anymore though) because our family and friends are located close by...we live and love long beach but prices are crazy right now... we probably could afford if i didnt get myself into financial debt when i was younger. im pulling myself out slowly but it is a 4 year process- i have 3 years to go. we both are turning 31 and want to have a house and start having kids. but we realized we just cant. i was getting so upset putting myself on this timeline because i felt like we had to because were getting older. it was making myself sick and we were fighting....
sorry i just had to vent and let it out! im better now... anybody else feeling like this?

I totally understand... DH and I have decided we want to stay in Forest Hills, Douglaston or Bayside. We want to say closer to my folks and to the city.
But the prices in those areas are crazy. We went to an open house in Forest Hills last week for a very old/not so well kept 3 bedroom, 1.5 bathroom (the half only had a toliet -- no sink ), unfinished basement (that probably couldn't be finished because the pipes are so low). The price tag -- $998K!!!! And the realtor had the nerve to say 'The house needs some work, but it's all about location.' Ooookay...
So, for now we will stay in our very large 2 bedroom/2 bathroom doorman apartment. We can definitely have one child here. After that we will see. It stinks to pour all that money into rent, but what can we do? My husband has a new (better) job, and hopefully we can afford to buy in the next 3 years in your neighborhood.
So -- yes -- if Long Beach makes you happy, hold out. My wedding photographer actually lives there -- said he bought an apartment there a few years ago and it has tripled in price at least!!!

You can always do a sellers concession and get some of those closing costs rolled into the mortage. Don't stress though, it took a long time for us to find our house and you'll know when its the right time and the right house.

FI and I are also feeling this way... we have an okay savings and we will keep saving for a few years. However, we live in a big 3 BR apartment and will not put our life on hold until we get a house!

We live in Bayside right now, and there's no way we can afford to buy here. (A home, not a co-op). So, we're looking to buy, and it's so frustrating. You're not alone!!! We hope that if we move out, in a few years we can move back. However, who knows, we may LOVE where we move to, and never move back???? Good luck!

We are in the same boat, and recently I began wondering if maybe for our generation, renting will be a way of life. It seems that everyone I know cannot afford to buy a place.
I did stop worrying for a while, and now I'm back to worrying again. But I will try to stop - NOT worrying is MUCH better!

i worry but i cant let it take over my life. as long as im happy and have a job and live in a decent place which we do, the house will EVENTUALLY come, later than sooner but it will.
