Unfortunately Aruba is governed by Dutch law and that is something that should be understood before going away to any place outside the US....
Unfortunate about what happened to her but does any of us know what really happened. Why did she leave a bar with a strange boy? Why did her friends let her go with him. Why was an 18 year old Mormon girl in carols and Charles drinking anyway?
Considering where we live it is pretty funny that people boycott other places....jmo

HAve been following this story. Definitely think he is not telling the the whole truth. It appears that several other girls have filed complaints against him. The Aruban authorities did not properly investigate this matter. And his father is a judge, strings were pulled. JMO
Feel awful for her family. they have no closure and the Aruban Authorities are not very forthcoming.

This is the reason why I was never allowed to go on vacation with my friends.
I really feel for this poor girl's family & friends. Could you imagine what it was like for her friends on the plane ride back to the states???

I read in an article that her friends saw her get in the car, and told her not too - they tried to talk her out, and she wasn't hearing it....
Did anyone else hear this?
This whole thing is just plain weird. And sad. i mean, her bags were packed and ready to go home - this happened right before she was supposed to go home - maybe she wanted one last fling before going home to her strict religious parents?
And, there is NO way my parents would have let me gone either - my mom never let me go on any overnight class trip...

As an FYI, my reason for personally 'boycotting' Aruba was for the simple fact that much of their economy is provided and flourishes by American tourism. The lack of cooperation from the government/police officialswas quite frustrating, not to mention disappointing. I did not feel that I wanted to contribute to their economy. Isn't it wonderful that we do live in America and are able to have different opinions and voice them openly..

I heard that as well. These are children who think they are adults...drinking and partying like a 'rock star'. They don't know how to handle or control their actions once they have been drinking for a while.
I feel that while these boys weren't the most responsible people, I don't think they killed her. That guy left her on the beach where she proabably passed out. And then God know what happened. I feel so bad for her parents.
I can remember going to a club on LI when I was 19 and there was a girl laying in the parking lot passed out with no one around. We told the bouncer and he picked her up and brought her to the back of the club. But he didn't call the cops.

I can just imagine how her parents felt when they heard she was dancing on the bar and calling him after she was drinking all day.
Just making a general statement, in my honest opinion about this statement above...not towards Jenny26.
I can't tell you how many times I watch the news, where children run away, go missing, pass away, get shot, get into a fight, and the parents are interviewed and they are in complete denial that their 'children would ever do that.' I know that our parents didn't know what we were doing growing up, but they AT LEAST had a smudge of an idea. I'm sure no parent wants to come onto national television and say 'we know our daughter might be a little promiscuous' but that'll just make the parent look bad. It's like kids that are in gangs and unfortunately get shot - their parents come onto the news and say 'my kid's an angel, gets straight A's, etc...'...but in reality - how involved was the parent REALLY in their child's life?
When I went away at 16 to Cancun, my parents KNEW exactly what to expect - that I would be in another country, not under US jurisdiction with fourteen other ladies, drinking, partying, and making-out (god-forbid having sex) with guys...they knew this from asking around other parents and other kids, and asking me...they didn't want me to go away, but I wanted to and they left me. They permitted me to go but made sure I knew exactly how they felt about it, and what to expect myself. I went away with the fear and knowledge I was raised with to NEVER leave your friends and always make sure someone knew where you were...even if you were going to the bathroom.
This still holds true to this day. No matter where my friends and I go, no matter how drunk someone is, there's always at least one or two of us that knows where we all are and what we're all doing! No one is ever left behind, and believe me, I've had full blown FIGHTS with guys who call me 'mommy, c0ckblocker, etc' b/c I've dragged a drunk friend away from them, but I didn't give a rat's azz b/c she was in no state to be left with a stranger. Even that drunk friend might be p1ssed at me as well, but they always thank you the next morning when they realize the state they were in.
Had Natalie H. honestly been drunk in the bar, I do place some blame on her friends for not standing their ground and convincing her not to stay with locals by herself. I'm sure those supposed friends live with this decision now each and every single day, and will never have a full-night's rest. I sure as heck know I wouldn't.
