Anyone's FH/DH not originally from LI but living there now?
My FH is from Maryland and we live there now. He's always known that I want to move back to LI and knew we couldnt take our relationship to the 'next level' if he wasn't willing to move there too.
I'm starting to worry that he would absolutely HATE it. Hes into big, new houses on huge plots of land (few and far between on LI). Is used to people being slower and friendlier (unlike us crazy fast New Yorkers that bump into people on the sidewalk and keep walking!), low(er) taxes (ha!) etc, etc, etc.
Has anyone's FH/DH moved to LI from somewhere else? How have they adjusted?

I'm the opposite. DH lived on LI and I moved to LI to be with him.
It was a definite change, but I've slowly gotten used to things over the last 2-3 years.
Describe it to him as somewhat of a growing experience for the relationship moving here!
And the nice thing - the housing market is now a buyers market!

my DH is from upstate NY. right now we actually live in queens but are looking for a house on LI. Before I met him he had already lived in florida for a year and then in queens for 3 years, so I think he did most of the adjusting before we met. He had never really been on LI though until me but over the three years we have known each other he has grown to like it. When I asked him if he would want to move back to where he grew up, where the cost of living is much lower, his answer was a definitive NO.

My FH is from Northeastern PA. He moved to be with me and we live in Bergen County, NJ...which is very similar to LI...crazily overpriced, congested, etc. He has adjusted okay, but really doesn't like the quality of life at all...it taking him an hour and 15 minutes to drive to his work 20 miles away is not his ideal situation. As a result, he is not interested in moving to LI at all...and hates when we have to drive there to see my parents. Needless to say, after the wedding we'll be moving to somewhere that suits both of us...we are thinking about CT.

FH is from upstate NY (Albany area) and when he first moved down here, he hated it! It was really tough for us for a while because he hated where I was born and raised. His biggest complaint, which we laugh about now, was the parking lots... he never understood why we have such elaborately designed parking lots down here (I had never noticed it before, but it's so true!). He's been down here for 2 years and now, he never wants to leave... he loves it down here. IMO, it doesn't matter where you move to, whether it be Long Island, Iowa, or Florida, it's going to take some adjusting...
