Anything done at another event which you will not do??
I bring this subject up because FH and I went to his cousin's bat mitzvah (sp?) and the DJ was so annoying that I wanted to scream. I kept telling my FH 'ok I now have a list of things I DON'T want the DJ to do!!'
Having been in 3 weddings, and been to a few more as a guest, I have now come up with the following list of things that will not be happening at my wedding, since I've seen it at other events and just thought, no way!!
1. Too loud DJ. I know if it's too loud, you're too old, but when you can't have a conversation with the person across from you without raising your voice, there's a problem.
2. No group dancing. This means no chicken dance, electric slide, etc.
3. No yelling at the people to get up and dance, why are they still sitting. Trust me, if you're a good DJ and playing the right music, you don't need to ask people to dance, they'll already be on the floor.
4. No 'The bride cuts the cake' song during the cake cutting. This just irks the hell out of me for some reason.
5. No telling the people to get up and dance when the food is just being served. I've seen 3 DJs do this. I just got my food, I want to eat, not have you yell at me to dance!
6. No 'singles' table. I saw this tonight and it looked like a matchmaking attempt or a place to put people that they didn't know where to put them.
7. No dais.
8. No dyed shoes to match the bridesmaid dress. Unless you get the shoes dyed black, chances are you'll never wear the shoes again. Especially if the dress is of the variety of the 'never wear again' kind. I'm telling my bridesmaids to just get silver strappy shoes, since they pretty much go with everything.
My list just keeps growing....
Anyone else have a list???

1. No club-style loud music. Just happened at the wedding I just went to. My ears are still ringing. 2. No MC dragging people out of their seats. 3. NO CONGO LINE. 4. No dais, only because I'd like my Bridal Party to be able to sit who they came with. 5. No party music during dinner. It should be calm, mellow, and not overpowering. You do want to talk during dinner. 6. No name-dropping from the DJ or big banner advertisements. 7. No trumpets as the guests enter. It just erks me. 8. No Electric Slide, Macarana, or Dollar Wine Song. I'm sure there are more ...

For me
1- No loud music when dinner is being served 2- No 'wands' when I am walking out of the church with FH...I think it looks too 'cheerleader' like 3- No full BP dais...just me and FH 4- No personalized vows..I'll be too nervous to remember all that 5- FH and I will NOT walk around and chat with people during dinner...we want to eat and so do our guests 6- No garter up the leg thing....and we are still contemplating the boK toss 7- no MOH speach..she already said she would freak out
Im sure there are more, but I have to think

1. No having the garter put on the person who caught the bouquet. It's awkward to watch. 2. No long dances with the parents and with each other. We don't want to bore people. 3. No big favors. Something small like mints or chocolates. 4. No big cocktail hour. I don't want people to fill up on the apps when they have a plate of food and cake coming out. 5. no chicken dance. no twist-remix. no celine dion.

Absolutely, Postively NO group dances...i.e Chicken Dance, YMCA, Tarantella...ETC...ETC...feels like an 80's flashback wedding IMO
No garter/Boquet toss...I HATE it when I'm forced up there by the bride or DJ...SKIP THIS
I also hate when the music is so loud that you can't hear anything the person next to you is saying w/o screaming...I always end up going home with a hoasre throat from screaming the entire night
No dasis table...another 80's flash back for me...I feel like you seclude the wedding party to be near you and your partner the entire night....like they can't leave your sides bc they are in the wedding party...
ETA: NO Giveaways...ie inflatable NOTHINGS, or Leis...this isn't a carnival...

Ok................
No group dances! Same here..no chicken dance, Macarena, Electric slide etc.
No garter/Bouquet toss. I just not interested. For me its something that takes away from a little extra dancing.
Uh, I think thats it.

OK this isnt about music for me because you all said the things I do not want to hear played at my wedding. BUT, I do not want to see:
Anything with my name on it carved out of ice or drizzled on a plate in chocolate sauce. I am 35 years old, I know my name and FH knows his. The cocktail napkins are enough. I once saw a black and white cookie at a wedding where the bride's name was on the white side and the groom's name was ont he black side. I thought it was tacky.

All of those same DJ things you said. no group dances (except maybe the time warp), no gona lines, no annoying MC, etc.
Also, NO HORA! Doug is still trying to change my mind on this. But..ok, not No hora, but no chairs. I will not be raised up on a chair. The view from the ground is fine thank you very much!
I wasn't TOO keen on the idea and then I actually saw my first hora ever in person and they dropped the bride twice, and LAUNCHED her mother out of the chair so she landed on her back from quite a height. NO THANK YOU!
We're doing the bo-k and garter toss, but we're not going to make the person who catches the bo-k dance with the poerson who catches the garter..unless it's a couple..then we'll have them dance

OMG, my FI wants to do the Hora and I said ok. But now you have me scared that I'm tumble to the floor. Okay, I have to convince him not to do it now.

the hora is only the circle dance part and the chair lifting can be omitted. It is knda like doing a grapevine dance step and a kick of the leg at the end. If you have a chair lift get a lot of strong men and you an DF need a white napkin to hold between you when you are lifted. I don't wanna do it either, but we will do it too.

Absolutely under no circustances will there be any group dances...no chicken dances, YMCA, electric slide...I am not in the 8th grade at the homecoming dance, this is my wedding and I hate the electric slide However, I while I don't like the garter being taken off the bride and tossed...I do like the bouquet toss. I am going to do it different though. I am going to have single blossoms , grouped together to look like a bouquet, with quotes tied around them ex. 'You will marry the boy next door.' You wil marry a millionaire.' etc. I love the idea of all the single girls at my wedding catching something and not standing there empty handed

No group dances! I hate them! No garter/bouquet toss -- I think only 3 singles are invited. I was at a wedding where they hired dancers to perform. I'm definitely not doing that.

no garter or b-ok toss, i'll probably give my bo-k to my sister as the day will be her 1 year anniversary (well 1 day after is her anniversary, but thats besides the point)
am i the only one who WANTS group dances?? anything that gets people up making fools of themseleves works for me. if you've ever seen my 52 year old mother do the electric slide, you'd know what i was talking about
ok, back to no: house music!! neither me nor fh can stand it - who wants to hear 'girl, i'll house you.' at a wedding - come on!!
i'm telling the dj - no house music, no j-lo, no britany, but lots and lots of danceable 80's music!!
no dais - 1985 called, they want their table back

No million and one tchochkas (sp) to put on tables (bells, chocolate, cameras, printed menus). There are some things that guests don't appreciate unless they are you're immediate family-so I am not going to bother.
What I have learned from those bells...My family still reaches for the fork and glass or fork and plate. The bells can be difficult to hear over all of the noise.
