hey ladies
when is it the best time to start looking for an apartment? now? or like say in the 3 months?
I am going to be moving either may 15 or june 1st. We have been looking online to see what is available for what prices, but I dont think we can see anything for those dates till like mid April.
And- what is up with realtor fees!!!???? I ahev family members who have been in real estate for a long time and they have never ever heard of the tenent having to pay a realtor fee. This must be a NY thing. I think it is beyond ridiculous! Arn't the buildings supposed to pay their fees?

Re: Apartment Hunting?
i hear they start posting new apartments in late march, early april. so i think you should start looking then. the best ones tend to go first, so it doesn't hurt to look early.

Re: Apartment Hunting?
i don't plan on moving in until january of next year. i plan on looking probably in the middle of the summer. but i'm also covering lower westchester and nassau county so will have to deal with two real estate agents and two huge territories. we also plan on buying something, so between placing a bid and waiting to hear back and setting a closing date...it'll take some time. i guess if you're renting, then you can wait later to start your search.

Re: Apartment Hunting?
I would recommend starting now, just so you know what is out there, and what to expect at your price range. Then, you'll know exactly what is reasonabe or not.... You'll also know what listings are good.
To date, I've always managed to avoid a realtor. The fee is enormous! Think of how much better you apartment would be if you just dedicated that fee towards rent... If you have pets, you may be forced to use one, though....
You will have to wait until april or may for apartments available in june, though....

Re: Apartment Hunting?
we just starting researching apartments on Craig's List -- but our plan is find something hopefuly for June and FH will move in and get settled, I'll stay on the weekends and move in officially after the wedding -- but in the meantime I can start packing my stuff and get settled a little before the wedding.
