apartment hunting

Original post by Espo22

Today fh and i went to about 5 or 6 open houses. The thing was that they were all part of this gated community so we didnt have to go far. They are mostly all duplex apartments and we've been really wanting to check them out.

First ill say that I really dont know how some people are even real estate agents

first apartment-amazing kitchen but only good thing about it, there was no dining room and the living room was the smallest thing the downstairs was mostly the kitchen. Now i want a nice kitchen but dont want that to be the only good part. The upstairs was ok and had a deck in the backyard. He kept trying to tell us how we wont find another kitchen like this one

2nd apartment-We loved. Nice size living room, dining room area, the kitchen is the one thing that would need to be updated and fixed up. Not big but not small either its ok. The master bedroom is HUGE, the bathroom is nice too and the 2nd bedroom is a real good size too. HUGE closets in both bedrooms. It also has a real big attic for storage. Now the thing about this apartment is that it belongs to an old lady who lives there for about 40 years and she is now going to move out of state to be with her daughter and grandchildren. So for one shes not looking to make ALOT of money off the apartment and seriously the price is INSANELY great, like even when i told my dad and family friends when we came back they were like WOW about the price. This real estate agent was one of the best ive come across. He said one thing is that hes very honest and upfront and he really was. First he pointed out any flaws there were. He really sat down with us and talked to us and even calculated everything for us, around how much it would come out to a month with interest all charges, different options we can do. He also told us that the woman is looking to move SOON so the price was dropped alot bc she is very motivated. HE even told us about what the community is planning to do to update something so it might increase the maintenance in the near future and about how much. This apartment needs some work done but not that bad. She lives there for so long so theres little things. my biggest thing is the kitchen, i wanted it completely updated so im taking my dad there to tell us about how much it would cost to do(my dad buys apartments and fixes them up and has sold them after so he has a team of guys to do this) other than that it would mostly be just some spackling, painting all the walls, theres carpet now but hardwood floor underneath so gonna rip out the carpet and see condition of floors and if they just need touching up or new ones. Other thing im considering is since there is a huge linen closet next to the bathroom to knock out the closet and extend the bathroom(we did this to my apartment) bedrooms are perfect and everything else. So just some little fixing up. Again with the price, even if we do some work we'd still be paying less. Theres also a downstairs closet that is long and where they keep the washer and dryer. Plus 2 parking spots. I am gonna call the guy to look again and go with my dad, if hes optimistic about the little work we have to do we will probably put an offer on this. For a duplex at this price its really hard to pass up on. In 2-3 years when we'd be ready to get a house then we sell it and can make a nice profit

3rd apartment-ok i am sorry but as a real estate agent you should speak english, even if its not perfect or with an accent thats fine hey my parents have accents so i wont discriminate but they speak well just with an accent lol. This apartment was HORRIBLE, we walked right in and right out. By the entrance was a real big storage closet, very long so i asked the lady if it can be made into a half bathroom, she looked at me like i was stupid and said 'No its storage' i think she thought i asked if it was a bathroom

4th-i like this one alot too, but exactly like the 2nd one we liked but the 2nd had a lower price so there goes that. This agent was ok actually.

5th-ok this one was the rudest. When we got there she was showing the apartment to a spanish woman and talking so much to her in spanish and so nice with her. We get there and i swear the agent barely spoke to us. She barely said hi and then let us to walk around alone, most came with us to point things out and talk to us. When we came back downstairs she just asked us to sign in, and not even if we had any questions and didnt even say bye. The apartment was in great condition but this was at the end of the whole area so it was right by the boulevard so lots of cars driving by, plus it was the most expensive out of all we've seen. Even if i wanted it, i honestly wouldn't get it just bc i would not want to give that lady any of my money or work with her.

I think we saw another one but i forget.

I am gonna try and set up an appointment tomorrow to see 2nd apartment. Its the only day this week we will be able to bc every day this week we have something to do FH is afraid at this price the apartment will sell quick so he doesnt want to sit on it and to really consider it.

sorry for my long post. I was just so annoyed with some agents, i really dont know how they keep their job. I mean one of them seriously couldnt answer anything i asked her bc she didnt speak english.

Re: apartment hunting

Sorry the other ones other ones ******. I get annoyed myself at rude agents (agents are even rude to other agents!). I wish they would just get out of the business and leave it to those that would happily do the work

Re: apartment hunting

Looking for a place is frustrating...before I bought my co-op I must have seen a ton of them. I had started in Feb. and finally made an offfer for one in May. Just remember the perfect place is out there waiting for you
