Apartment Hunting

Original post by eoconnell09

Now that all of the wedding plans are done, we would like to start looking for an apartment.

Ideally we would like to move to Queens, since I work at St. John's and my fiance works all over the 5 boroughs...we would also consider staying in the South Shore of Nassau County...like Franklin Square, New Hyde Park, Valely Stream, etc.

Do any of you know of any apartments that are available? Can you recommend some good areas in Queens?

THANK YOU!!!!

Thanks ladies....we are definitely looking to rent for now. We can't afford to buy anything just yet, but hopefully after the first year.

I have heard wonderful things about Astoria too.....a couple of my co-workers live there and love it.....I know that it is a little pricey though.

We are looking to spend no more than $1250/month for a 1 bedroom....obviously we would spend more for a 2 bedroom because we really want one.....

I will check out the websites soon

I saw a great apartment for pretty cheap in LIC....that is perfect for my husband too since he mainly works in Manhattan and goes to plumbing school in LIC.

Long Beach is amazing....I agree, but it would be a real pain for my FH to get to and from work every day. We have spoken about it though and it might be worth the miserable commute....

Do you know approximately how much they are going for?

Thanks!

Re: Apartment Hunting

So it turns out that we aren't going to be able to look into an apartment until next week at the earliest. Unfortunately my grandma is really sick and they don't think she is going to make it past this week. I went to visit her yesterday....poor thing!

In the meantime, I am still keeping an eye out, so please let me know if you hear of anything!!

Thanks ladies!

So sorry about your grandma!
I live in the area that you're looking so I'll keep an eye out. What are you looking for? 1 bedroom, ect.?

Thank you! I appreciate it! She is 95 and has been battling pneumonia for close to 6 weeks now, so we have had time to prepare ourselves for this.

Thank you keeping an eye out for us....Ideally we would like a 2br and would be willing to spend $1400-$1500 on that, but we would be financially more comfortable spending around $1050-$1250 and staying in a 1 br. His brother and sister-in-law live in Putnam so we would like to have a place for them to sleep when they stay, but we could easily get a blowup mattress as well.

Thanks again!

Where would he commute to? I commute back and forth to midtown everyday. its not bad at all. I leave my apartment everymorning at 7:25 and I sit at my desk everyday at 8:50. Its not a quick commute, but not bad at all!
When DH and I were apartment hunting there a little over a year ago, we saw 1 bedrooms in buildings for about $1475-$1600. Most of these were in buildings on the beach or a block from the beach, with elevators, and pools.

Thank you!! The unfortunate thing about my fiance's job is that he never knows where he will be working until the day before. He is a union plumber and he can be sent to any job in the 5 boroughs. He also has to be at work by 6:45 AM most days, so he will be driving most of the time. I will definitely look into it though....we don't need right on the beach either, although it would be nice!
