FH and I currently live in Maspeth and we think it's a great area. Also Middle Village which is right in that same area is nice.

bayside, kew gardens, little neck, douglaston, astoria, forest hills, whitestone/flushing area (north flushing)...believe it or not, Long Island City is the hot new place to start looking - totally redoing/revitalizing the area. I was there the other day and some of those luxury buildings are sick!
good luck looking!

what area are you in now? Forest Hills/Kew Gardens is nice. Plus Laurelton & Cambria heights on the southern part close to Long Island has beautiful houses.

I live in Woodside and I love it. Very close to the 7 train which takes you to midtown in 15 minutes. Also try Long Island City and Sunnyside. I also like Rego Park area, but its a little further in queens and not as close to the city.

I live in Woodhaven, but I would suggest Bayside, Fresh Meadows, Maspeth, Middle Village, Forest Hills, Howard Beach and Little Neck.

I'd lso consider how far you want to be from trains/buses/major highways. My apartment is nice and my neighborhood in Fresh Meadows near Kissena PArk is decent, but trying to get to a subway in the morning is a bltch. Bayside is really nice, but way far up north and the Cross Island can be a nightmare at rush hour. And nice places nbear subways are more $$.

I had an apartment off Bell & Northern in Bayside. I loved it! Walked to LIRR and all the bars and stores. Parking sucks though. But I think it sucks all over Queens.

Re: Apartment in Queens, NY
I have been living in Queens for almost 3 years now! We used to live in Rego Park which is cheaper and closer to a subway but filled with old people. We live in Forest Hills now and we love it! We're 2 mins to a local subway and 7 minutes to the express. 20 mins into the city and there's great restaurants/gyms/bars on Austin Street. Go out one night on Austin Street and you'll see how nice it is!!
