if you are looking for a good are near public transportation I would def say forest hills (and possibly parts of Rego Park). I had this issue when FH and i were looking at apts...and there are tons of nice areas but they were not close to the subway. If you want something near the LIRR instead, forest hills is near that too, but also try bayside.

I have a lot of friends in the astoria area that love it, but i havent gone there much.

I have been living in Queens for almost 3 years now! We used to live in Rego Park which is cheaper and closer to a subway but filled with old people. We live in Forest Hills now and we love it! We're 2 mins to a local subway and 7 minutes to the express. 20 mins into the city and there's great restaurants/gyms/bars on Austin Street. Go out one night on Austin Street and you'll see how nice it is!!

i grew up in forest hills and when FH and i went looking at apts last year we found one right up the block form where i grew up...we moved in and found out it is technically considered Rego park (the people that sent us mail to forest hills got it returned to then!). either way it is a great area! i love austin street. but parking stinks
