Take 4-6 granny smith apples (depending on size) peal them, core them and slice into half moons ( this is easier done with an apple peeler/slicer, that i got for 14.00 its WORTH the money!)
Put them in a pan glass pan is ok,or even a pie plate is better
Then pour about 3/4 of a box of Yellow cake mix on top of the apples.
then melt 1-2 sticks of butter and pour all of the top,
then pour cinnomin sugar (i like to make my own, then i can control the taste) all over the top
bake at 350 for about 20 minutes or until the sugar is getting crispy..
serve warm with ice cream or cool whip!

Re: APPLE CRISP
this is what DH does (he loves to make this...and the recipe came out of a childrens cookbook)
cut about 5 pealed and cored apples into quarters then slices
sprinkle apples with 1/4 cup brown sugar and 1/2 t cinnamon
mix with hands until crumbly then sprinkle over apples: 1 c flour, 2/3 sugar, 1/2 cut margarine or butter
bake 45-50 min at 375 degrees

Re: APPLE CRISP
Has anyone tried to replace the apples with fresh peaches? Yummy! That's one of my favorite summer recipes!

Re: APPLE CRISP
If you like an added crunch as we do, add some chopped walnuts or pecans to the topping. If you like how it sounds, ask me and I can give you specific measurements. It's the Cook's Illustrated recipe that I use.

Re: APPLE CRISP
Susan-
Can you explain this a little better for me...I'm a little confused!
You pour half a box of cake mix - dry...or mixed as per the box instructions?
The how much sugar/cin. do you put on top?

Re: APPLE CRISP
the cake mix is dry and the cinomin sugar for the top is sprinkled all over the top to basically cover (thats whats going to get crispy so the more you put on the crispier it will get)
Let me know how it turns out, its SOOO easy!!

Re: APPLE CRISP
Cat-I was wondering the same thing. It sounds so good, but wasnt sure if you add the cake mix dry or as per the boxes directions.
