Littman Jewelers in the South Shore Mall brings in an independent appraiser every so often. That's where I had my ring done. My Aunt works there so I trust anyone she trusts.

LOL. Yeah, Riverhead is out there! I think the South Shore Mall is in Bayshore. It's on Sunrise Hwy.

There is a guy I use in Southampton, he is great but I dont know if he dose it in front of you, you may have to leave it there.

The guy at Littman did it right in front of me. I wouldn't dare leave my ring! Yes, call Littman and ask: 631-666-1750. DUH! I had the business card in my wallet! The address is: 1701 Sunrise Hwy.

ETS: You'll have to make an appointment. The whole things took about 15 - 20 minutes and he mailed us the complete appraisal. It was $65. I was very satisfied with the professionalism and extent of the appraisal and FH was pleased with the amount it was appraised for.![]()

Robert's Jewlers in Southold on Main Street (right in the village).
He has been there for YEARS! Everyone in the town uses him..my sister inherited a 3kt ring and had him re-set it in a necklace.
She had no reservations with leaving it there! Talk about trust!
He really is a wonderful man...very, very knowledgeable.

It's not really in Eastern Sufolk, but I hightly recommend the Jewelry Judge in Garden City. I actually heard about them on this sight and am so glad we went. They helped us with insurance information and are very reputable. Check out their website(jewelryjudge.com) Good Luck

Cynthia I went to High School with the owner of Robert Jewelrs' son.
I heard some bad things about him... switching diamonds... makes me nervous about leaving it there...

Oh yea,at the Jewelry Judge everything is done in front of you, the ring never leaves your sight, which really made me feel comfortable. She also cleaned the ring for me and told me how to care for it

we did a lot of research on this. there are 5 major appraisal associations. They are listed on the GIA website. this is the same GIA that certifies the 5 c's, but they do not appraise. but on the GIA website ,they list the various appraisal associations

one of the associations is located in new york.

on the associations site , they explain the various certification titles. and if you search on their site for new york and gem/jewelery.you will see 29 appraisers. so it seems like a select group.
we used edward lewand. he is located in both nyc and long island.(sayville)
its been a while, but i think the cost was 200.he appraises it(in front of you) before you set the stone, and again AFTER it is set , to make sure you have the same stone.
even though we already had a GIA certificate, he confirmed our diamond matched the certificate's details.(we did not show him thecertificate until AFTER he did his appraisal) he did his review 1st, then wote down the various 4c's in his opinion. we then showed him the official GIA certificate, and his grading was very close to GIA.

The KAROT shop does eveything right in front of you. I liked that. We got the engagement ring there. We just got the wedding rings at Zales, in Tanger outlet they are VERY reputable, but You have to leave the ring for any service.
