I take ( everyday for the past 4 years) this drug achiphex for my heartburn. Its the same like Nexium, prevacid and prilosec. We are starting to ttc and Im wondering if it is ok. I need this medicinge because I get really really bad heartburn like everyday other wise.

Re: are antacids allowed ?
I can tell you that my doctor has allowed me to take Tums during the pregnancy.
I would check with your doctor to see what they feel about it. Each doctor is different.

Re: are antacids allowed ?
I think I saw somewhere that Zantac was the only medication of that type that was OK during pregnancy. Check with your doctor for sure. A pharmacist might be able to answer the question if you want a quick, general response, but definately check with your doctor. I think Tums are OK to take too, but again, check.

I've heard that Tums are actually GOOD to take while preggo (even if you're not experiencing heartburn/stomach probs) because they are such a wonderful source of calcium. This was not from a doctor though, so I'd check with yours.

My doctor said the same thing.

Re: are antacids allowed ?
I took Nexium daily before TTC and then I started to take it occassionally while TTC.
Now I'm 21 weeks pregnant and I'm not allowed my reflux medicine at all -- only Tums or Mylanta
I keep a bottle of Tums in my purse all the time now...
