I was curious if the prices catering halls tell you per person is a set rate and they dont budge, or is it negotiable?
We are looking at
GW Manor Swan Club Sans Souci Westbury Manor
so far, so if anyone has any experience with either of those places and was able to negotiate, we would definitely appreciate the help.
thanks, Regina & Brian

Re: are catering hall prices negotiable?
I looked at Swan Club & Sans Souci....
Swan Club- gave me $90pp for a Saturday night/peak season- didn't seem like they'd negotiate, but they told me that since I'd be taking the bigger room (if I had it there....the min. is 165) they'd throw in a venetian hour.
Sans Souci- not sure if they'd negotiate price...but they were actually one of the best prices we got- $80pp Saturday night peak season- and they include your centerpieces....great deal, I've heard the food is good there also.
good luck!

Westbury Manor gave me $150/person... including an ice sculpture, 5 extra stations during(one being a seafood boat w/ lobster tree) cocktail hour, the venecian tables and a chocolate fountain.
$85 with out

yes! Don't ever just accept the first price you are offered.. Lots of vendors will negotiate either with money or add-ons

Re: are catering hall prices negotiable?
A couple of places we looked at negotiated when we told them a number and said we cannot do anything more than that...most times they added on stuff though

Re: are catering hall prices negotiable?
They are definitely negotiable. If you guarantee a higher minimum, a lot of times the hall will lower the price and add things in.

Re: are catering hall prices negotiable?
thanks for all the great advice..
So what is the best way to approach some kind of negotiation.. either by price discount or add ons...
Do you just flat out say 'Can we do a little better than this?' or something along those lines.
I know my FH said if a place would cut us some kind of a discount he would pay upfront and in full for the minimum required # of people...
so we're not really sure the best way to approach it..
thanks again

i think it depends on the specifics of the place you are negotiating with.
say that your issue is that you can't meet the minimum - in that case, maybe ask for more stuff.
if the issue is that you can meet the minimum but the pp is too high, then maybe ask for a lower pp. AND if they give you some pushback and you KNOW that you're definitely gonna go above the min, then try to guarantee a higher min that you definitely know you will make and ask for a lower pp then.
if you have a site fee, maybe ask if paying cash for the site fee will eliminate tax and service charge on that.
