Are 'dye lots' a myth?
Once I picked my BM dresses I told the girls that they can order from the salon or online where it was cheaper. I truely didn't care, was trying to save them some $. People had issues with ordering it online b/c they didn't want to have to write other BMs a check... blah blah blah. In the end, a few ordered online and a few ordered from the store. Whats done is done but just so Im prepped when I see them in real life: Has anyone ever seen a difference in color when people ordered the same dress and color from an authorized dealer? I just want to prepare myself. If so, I'll just keep saying 'ombre' is in style and line them up from dark to light

I have been in one wedding and have seen a bunch of other weddings where the bridesmaids have ordered their dresses separately. I have NEVER noticed a difference between the dress colors. My FSIL, on the other hand, whose wedding I am in in May, insisted on ordering all the dresses herself, because she was scared that the dresses would come from different dye lots and it wouldn't look good.
I can't imagine the designers of BM dresses would allow the dresses to be dyed in a manner that the colors would be SO different that you'd notice.
That's just what I think, hope it helped!!

Thank you! Puts my mind at ease knowing you have been in and seen weddings like my scenario. If the Gap doesn't have 6 different navy blues, why would Bill Levkoff have 6 different Sangrias? *sigh of relief*

That's exactly how I feel. If you want, FM me your email and I'll send you a pic of a friend's wedding from this summer. I wasn't in it, but I know for a fact that almost all the girls ordered their dresses at different times, and you can't tell.

Now, I could be wrong, but I have always felt that the whole ordering the dresses together due to dye lots was a bit of a ploy by the dress shop to get the BP to order them from their shop at the same time to make a sale. Otherwise, if you bought the same non BM dress from two different shops for any reason, they would look all different.....and they don't.

Ive never had experience with seeing dresses not match. However I have heard this and was a little afraid so I did order mine all together (they can give me a check later). This was partly because of the dye lot and partly because I was afraid theyd discontinue the dress before everyone ordered like they did with the original color I wanted. But it worked out for the best I love my brown and long dress vs my cognac short one.

I was told the same thing by my bridal shop but what they did was let all the girls order the dresses when they wanted too (by a certain date) and then they sent the order out together so there dresses would be all from the same lot. I dont think they would even be noticeable though so I wouldnt even worry. Ive come to find out that the stuff the bride worries about never even crosses the guests minds.

Dye lots aren't exactly a 'myth', but I think it's going to be highly unlikely that if your girls get dresses in different places at different times that they will vary in color shade so much that it would be noticeable. I work in the apparel industry and sometimes we are forced to switch factories for $$ reasons. We usually get multiple samples until the quality of the fabric and the color are up to par. I'm not in the bridal industry, but I would assume they do the same thing.

I used to work in the fashion industry, and dye lots are not a 'myth' however they are not a concern as long as you order from the same designer.A dye lot simply means that when an order is put in, however many dresses are in the order are dyed at the same time with a certain amount of dye. That dye lot is different the next week when another order is put in for the same color.
Designers use the same exact dye for every same color order (i.e. Jim Hjelm 'plum' is always the same dye), however the designer and sometimes the bridal salons will tell you that there is no guarantee that the dye will come out the same, simply because there are variables from one dye lot to the next in terms of how long they are set in the dye, etc. They just can't make any guarantees and risk customers getting angry if the colors aren't the same for some reason.
Rest assured, it is VERY UNLIKELY that you will see a difference if there even is one. 4 of my girls order Jim Hjelm dresses and 1 ordered an Alvina Valenta...they are both part of the JLM Couture company but they will be in 2 different dye lots because they are from 2 different brands. I'm not concerned because the dye is the same dye used across the board.

I was in my FSILs wedding last year. We all ordered our dresses from different David's Bridal locations at different times & from different states! There was no difference in our colors.

I was warned by my bridal store when I ordered that most times dye lots are fine but more recently my dress line, impressions, was having dye lot issues and they recommended ordering together...my cousin and maid of honor actually works in that store and she confirmedWelcome New Vendors
