Are guest books really necessary?

Original post by AlyNJoe

I'm debating if I even need one. At first I thought about doing the photo w/the signing mat. I don't know, I'm feeling like the whole guest book thing is just something else to spend $$ on, and then what do I do with it after the wedding?

Is anyone not doing anything like a guestbook?
Do people really even look for it?

Nope.. I NEVER sign them..I don't think I have even seen them at weddings to be honest with you.

ditto, although i dont see them at most weddings but the few that had most guests i noticed didnt sign. Ive also noticed alot of brides on here and brides i know outside of LIW say not many guests signed it.

i actually did one from the guestbookstore.com
I completely love it. They give you pages that we left at every table. It has spots for guests to draw portraits of themselves and of you, fill in questions about memories with you and the event. A lot of people filled it out. The pages were collected at the end of the night and they give you a pretty binder to hold them together. I love looking through it- but I'm also an art teacher so I love seeing people get creative!

We frantically went to get a guest book within 2 weeks of the wedding because we were convinced no wedding was complete without one.

In the meantime, about 80% of the guests signed it but most of them just signed their names, very few people took the time to write a message. It's more of an autograph book I don't even know where I put it
