I like the idea because then you can specify on the inner the names of everyone invited, but then again i dont want to spend the extra $$$... what do you think??

Re: are inner envelopes 'necessary'???
Unless the wedding is black tie or black tie preferred, IMHO they are not necessary, just specify the names on the outside of the invite and anyone in a family over 16 or 18 depending on your view should get their own. Calculate how many extras this will be - if it is just as many as the cost of inner envelopes then do them, otherwise, not needed.

Depends on your definition of necessary. Nothing is truely necessary but I think it's a nice and honestly I don't think you'll save very much by not doing them, at least $$-wise.

I think they are a nice touch, but they are not necessary. I paid extra bc I wanted them.

well the additional env. is $.50 each and then ofcourse it would HAVE to be lined with the tissue paper to match the invite and that is an additional $1.00/env. $1.50 more for say 165 invites adds up... about $250 more...

Re: are inner envelopes 'necessary'???
In my opinion they are necessary. I love when I can throw away the ugly outer envelope and keep the invitation in a nice clean envelope. And it does help to specify who exactly is invited to the wedding. but if it's a lot more money, and you don't feel it's worth it, then there's no need really

IMO, not at all necessary. The one's I fell in love with came with them, so I am using them.

I don't think they are necessary, especially now with the one page invitation. There is another option, if you don't want to use an informal salutation on the outside. Vellum paper. It costs about $18.00 for a pack of 100 sheets (sometimes cheaper depending on where you get it). You can print an informal salutation on the paper and insert it with the invations. I've tested it, is also takes the place of the tissue paper and looks good too.. When I take a pic, I will scan and post.

I think you could easily skip them and noone would notice one way or the other. If it will save you $250 than don't bother with them. That $250 could easily be spent on something more important.

I agree with this also....and as a side note a friend of mine recently sent out her invites without the inner envelope...and many of her guests called saying that the invite for ruined through the mail...so the inner envelope protects the actual invite

I always thought you had to have them. If I would have known, I would have skipped them. Less money that way and less to write out.

Re: are inner envelopes 'necessary'???
Ok I have to change what I said - we used them, had our invited hand cancelled and the post office still mangled some of them. Thank goodness we had inner envelopes they saved the day. So if you are doubting, use them. I am now very happy we did.

I didn't get them....but my invitation came in an envelope (it was part of the invite) does that make sense? but I don't think they are necessary...jmho

Re: are inner envelopes 'necessary'???
My wedding is Black Tie Optional and there are a lot of out-of-towners who are not used to the formality of an east coast wedding, so I am using the inside envelope and putting the specific people who are invited on them so that they know it's not a casual affair and that they can't just 'bring' people like they do in the midwest.
