I have started my DJ hunt and after speaking with one he seemed to think that lights are a necessity for a night wedding. What do you ladies think?
That said, I was not looking for a club-like atmosphere. I am not even sure if the MC is necessary. I just want intro's and such.
Thoughts???

Re: Are lights necessary for DJ package?
Go with what you want. We're having a band - they don't offer lighting packages. I don't feel like we'll be missing anything. I've been to weddings with DJs without lighting packages and they were all lovely.
I think that we need to remember that guests are going to notice things that ARE there, not things that are absent. (The only exception may be some engaged ladies - )
No one at your wedding will say 'Gee, they really could use some mood lighting from the DJ!' They'll notice it if it's there (which could be a plus or minus depending on how you feeling about it), but they won't miss it at all if it isn't there.

I think it depends on the size and atmosphere of your venue.
If you don't want anything club like- then I say you can go without them.
I wouldn't listen to anyone who tells you that anything is COMPLETELY necessary- it's your wedding- if you don't want it- it isn't necessary.
That being said- there are other types of lighting available that aren't club like- and you could explore those options (like spotlighting, and colorwashing the walls and stuff like that)
There are some DJs, according to my experience, who include a couple of lights in the basic packages.
Hope that helps!
Good Luck!

Re: Are lights necessary for DJ package?
I'm always hesitant when vendors feel something is 'necessary'. hehe. personally we are not getting the light package. we didn't want a club atmosphere either and im having a night wedding. we considered it but decided it wasn't worth the money. not sure anyone would notice the difference with or without.
we also considered if we needed an MC. most seem to think that it is not necessary. we are having a larger wedding though and FH thought it was worth it to have the Mc so we booked it.

Re: Are lights necessary for DJ package?
We choose to go with a DJ only no MC ( dj will amek all intos and announcments) and as for lighting he at no time said it was necessary but I added a small lighting package as I have seen pictures of our hall at night and our room can get a little dark. I made sure to explain that I dont want it to look like a club/too disco and so we will have only a few white lights.

It is up to you what you want. Lights are not a necessity, just an added source of revenue for the DJ. Guests will remember the food, the music, sometimes the flowers, but not if there were club lights, especially if you do not want a club atmosphere. Interview more DJ's.

Lights are not necessary at all! I get hesitant when vendors say something is 'necessary.' Go with what you want and don't let anyone pressure you into something you don't feel comfortable with.

Re: Are lights necessary for DJ package?
I didn't have any lights. We didn't want them because my MIL seemed to think that they were 'trashy' and that was not a battle I wished to fight with her. Instead, we made up for light by having high centerpieces that not only included flowers but also included candles so we wouldn't need them.

We're not having any. I'm really not a fan if them, and my DJ agreed that they are definately not a necessity.

Re: Are lights necessary for DJ package?
Before I booked my dj I asked the same question. And I agree it's totally not necessary, it can be a nice tough but as long as the music is good that's what matters! Don't feel pressured to get anything you don't want. I'm having lighting because I got a very good deal. Otherwise I wouldn't have bothered with it.
