So, I've been working with a TA for my honeymoon, and while she found me an amazing place to stay, the prices just aren't as competitive if I went on the website myself and booked it. It's just so weird... I thought using a TA meant that you got the best deal... is this not the case?
TIA ladies... I'm not sure what I should do!!

I always book my vacations online....I never used a TA before. No need for it.

Re: Are TAs worth it?
it's not always the case. you can definitely book it on your own. reasons to go through a TA is because they get deals/rooms/packages etc that we don't have access to (especially if a place says they are sold out...they really aren't) as well as insurance and can plan multiple locations in one trip easier than we can do online. If you can do the package for cheaper by yourself, i say do it. It's not great etiquette since they were working for you and she's hoping for your commission, but she didn't find you a better deal, so she didn't do a good enough job to earn your business. That's just my opinion :)

Re: Are TAs worth it?
I am normally our travel agent finding great deals all over the place.
For our honeymoon it was one thing I didn't have time for. We used a TA. Our rates were a few thousand dollars cheaper than if we booked it ourselves.
And we got so many extras thrown in.
I would def. recommend using a TA. Maybe try a different one.

Ask her. Is there anything she's including.? Who are you using? I would not book with her if she's giving you a higher price..obviously. I'm sure not all TA's are great but I recommend mine for a honeymoon because I didn't have to go crazy researching and she organized drivers, etc.
If you are going to one place like an all inclusive in the Caribbean you don't need a TA unless you notice they give you a better rate.

Yea, that's my concern. We're only going to one place in Cabo. I mean she found a place that i LOVE that is a great deal that i never knew about, but other than finding it, that's all she's done. Hm, this is weird. I'll let you know what happens!

Re: Are TAs worth it?
I'm using a TA b/c we are going to south-east Asia and we're not familiar with the area... would rather leave it up to an expert than mess it up!
When I'm planning domestic vacations - or Caribbean - I usually plan on my own though!

I would def. ask her about the price. Maybe she is including something you're not aware of.
I was going to book through the site but went with a TA. She helped me calm down, gave me great suggestions. In addiiton to the 65% off and free night listed on the website, through her I am getting
- A free candlelight beach dinner - $100 spa credit - Flip camera
So that's worth it.
I'm paying exactly what I would have paid had I booked through the website.

Re: Are TAs worth it?
I worked with a TA only because we are going to Greece and staying in 3 different cities, we needed transfers from island to island etc.. i dont think I would have ever been able to do it alone.
