Fh and I as you may know are paying for college,an apartment and a wedding...on top of that we are saving towards our dream home!! So I washoping to start a thread that maybe we can all help each other out. IF you see a great deal or are doing any thing to save here adn there please post!!!
SO far...I have worked with the lady at my favorite stop and shop to create these awesome identical bouquets of flowers at a price of 9 bucks each. My best friend and I are going to get extra fabric and wrap them the night before at our hotel!
Centerpieces I am getting rose pettles really cheap from a wholesale florist and using three long and pink taper candles on our tables with a bunch of tea lights.
We found a great photographer and videography with a very reputable company and great website for a total of 2000!!! YES FOR BOTH COMBINED> thats for 8 hours and basic package. fm me for details
Our dj is well known and fantastic...I saw a friend of a friends wedding video and must have him...1395 for a nice package.
We are having our wedding on Labor day....We got the thatched cottage to give us the entire day to decide on our hours. So we get part day and part night. We got winter rates for a september wedding!!! Your talking minus 25$ a head!!! We also got them to throw in a chocolate fountain, we are having a sushi chef and frozen drinks!
Since we having our wedding On a monday...myhotel and flight will be cheaper leaving on a Tuesday.

I'm trying my hardest to be a budget bride, but with asian families, it's VERY hard. Traditional asian families feel that you HAVE to invite EVERYONE who has invited your family to their weddings in the past....that applies to our friends as well as our parents friends. If you don't, and the other party finds out, it's considered disrespectful. So far, our budget is at 35K...which i guess isn't TOO bad considering we're expecting 350 guests.
Anyhow, we cut some corners by doing our wedding during the winter and during the day.
We're not using floral centerpieces...i'm during rose petals and votives.
We used our friends as often as possible. Our DJ's are friends and are charging us $800 to lug all their equipment from jersey, 2 DJ's (one likes to spin from records, the other from CD's), and a full lighting package (intelligent lights and strobes).
Our officiant is my current youth group pastor, who also happens to be a good friend.
Since all asian kids were forced to play some sort of classical instrument, I have plenty of friends to choose from in terms of music for the ceremony....I know tons of Julliard trained violinists, vocalists, my sister went to LaGuardia for flute...my dad is a classical pianist.
We'll be getting our invites from costco...SOOOO cheap AND they're thermography!
The only area we splurged on was photography....even budget brides should get ONE splurge!!! We cut out videography, since we knew we'd never watch it anyway. We may get a friend to tape the ceremony though.
WOw!! good idea about cosco for the invites...I didnt think of that!!! Awesome!!! Thanks

I'm a budget bride as well....though I don't really know how much everything is going to cost since the only thing I've booked is the hall
We're paying for the bulk of the wedding ourselves (with help from parents here and there) and FH periodiclly freaks out about the cost.....it's kinda funny and out-of-the-blue when he does it, but i shouldn't make fun.
either way...I'm trying to keep the cost fairly low.
curiousgeorge, you have an FM!!

if you could share video/photo info that would be fab!
our venue is really rich in decor, jeweltoned color scheme, so our decorations will be to complemete this:
in lieu of pew flowers:
-we're lining the asile w/ hurricane vases & candels (which will also be our CP's)
-CP's will have white/cream/baby pink rose petals
CH tables (this lounge area is open for the duratuion of the party)
martini glass w/ rose head in it & petals below
orchid's (from Pro flowers, $50) for the lounge area
favor cookies $3.00 each
BM dresses, a) david's Bridal $150 b) Jessica McClintock $88
that's it so far, I'll add more when I can

I've been grabbing numbers from music schools for strings during ceremony, these college students will work for food, drink, and little $$ for the extra money and experience.... Plus it will feel good to give them money because they are struggling artists and I myself remember what having extra money and not eating ramen noodles for a night in college felt like...
GREAT idea!!!

I'll definately be chattin with you later, we have budgetted a total of 14k including our honeymoon... or perhaps no honeymoon... lol
You can total do a gorgous honeymoon!!! Best kept secret...is Key west!!! Ive been there and its just as gorgous as most of the islands Ive been too! They have an underwater hotel there too thats very cool and reasonable.
highly recommend key west - my fave place and you can drive there to save money! there are plenty of places you can stay that include kitchen areas - FH and I would eat at 'home' for breakfast, lunch and snacks and then just go out at night for dinner! love it there

Re: Are there any budget brides here? Share!!!
I was told that Oct. was an off peak month and had my heart set on an autumn wedding. Unfortunately it is not an off month. I originally had my date for the Sat. we switched to a Sunday night and saved $6000.
My hall also includes decorations for the ceremony and CH and the cake and the HM suite at the hotel so that saves us money.
We are also keep the BP small.
Mostly I'm trying to stick to our budget which I have but I love everyone's ideas to save $!

I am definatly a budget bride!! I have been to about 15 halls and i am going nuts that most of them want $85 a head and up!!! I booked my photo, video, limos, initations, tuxes, andflowers(not centerpieces) thru WEDDING WORLD in commack (love them!!!) the price they gave me for all that was the same as 1 videographer/photographer!!! I am also getting my wedding dress there cause they gave me $100 off for booking the package! I am making my favors and centerpieces myself to save $$ too. My parents think its a great idea as well as FH but if i hear 'you get what you pay for' one more time from people who have more money than me i am going to screeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaammmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!!!!!!!! I do not belive you have to spend alot of money to get quality service but it hurts when your trying to stay on a budget and not spend 50,60,or 70,000 for ONE DAY, and people who you know that are getting married can pretty much spend what they want have something to say about the way your planning your wedding!! ug! ah well i know i will have an awesome wedding and not go into debt!!!!!!!

We figured for this ONE DAY event, it's not gonna matter that much being in spring instead of summer and being on a sunday instead of saturday...
Would you mind FM me info about that wedding package thing you got, I'm uber intrigued...

LOL...hey Heather...have you checked out Hamet Willow Creek? I have heard really great things about that place. I also heard it was reasonably priced. Check out some reviews on these boards. All good stuff.
Don't loose sight of your budget, you are right, its not worth it in the end. I used to meet with brides and grooms at a DJ company and I would see them spend all this money, taking loans and stuff while living in this one bedroom apartment. All I could think was when this is all over and they are still living in this one bedroom studio and in debt, are they going to still be happy. Probably not. It will be beautiful no matter what.

OMG I am soooo happy this thread topic is getting so much response. I have already got three ideas from you girls that I will def be doing.... I absolutely love the idea of CH hour tables with a martini glass and flowers in it!!! How cool!! And costco for invites!! I just learned about phylis at gownfind and how she will give me the best price on the gown...so thats what im going to do...im going to find the gown i want and get the style number and have her order it for me....she can get me 600$ off my gown!!!!!
I agree.....I know that some people did take out a loan to pay for their weddings...but I wasnt about to do that...i mean i have student loans and soon to have a mortgage....Its just scary!!! So thats why this is so helpful...Nobody knows how much you spend whether its 1000k or 5000k

Kristin, I love your CP idea. Where are you getting the candles and flower petals? I saw a picture similar to what you said and it's gorgeous. I also saw silk leaves on ebay and thought of using those instead of petals.
