especially for married ladies: did you spend your precious time on a project and then felt it was pointless?

Nope! I think they were cost effective, and our guests loved them.

i don't plan on doing programs even though we're doing our own placecards, menus, table numbers, and such. i think programs are something that you could probably skip out on and it won't affect your wedding.

I asked this same question irl to a few brides and the most common answers were cry packs and petal cones.
Keep in mind, people won't miss what isnt there, but will notice what IS there. so whatever you do, do it up!

Re: Are there any DIY projects that you regret...
I know a girl who did her own flower centerpieces and said the effort and stress that went into it was way too high for her....she was still tying bows on them the day before her wedding (she couldn't start too early or else the flowers would wilt before the reception). Then she had to clear the fridge to store them in overnight. Her sister, in addition to rushing around getting ready the morning of, had to also drive to the venue with the flowers to drop them off.
ETA: I think that I would do my own CP's if they didn't entail flowers so that you could do it early
