Are there any other September 11th brides out there? I am thinking of changing the day! Do you think I am CRAZY?
I cried all last night. My FI has had it! He keeps saying we already booked the band we can't get the $$$ back and if the guy doesn't resell the date we have to pay him in full according to the contract. We didn't lose anyone, but FI brother lost a friend, but we asked him and he said it would be OK that ppl need to move on. I know my cousin is going to be uncomfortable given that she lived in BPC and her condo was completely ruined. I don't know what to do. Should this just be a day of mourning or should I move on and realize that I will be marrying the man of my dreams and that is all that matters? FI is ready to call off everything!!!

This is a delicate situation.
I asked my DH if a hall gave us an outrageous deal- would he consider this and he said- NO WAY!
I do not want to say you are crazy, because you are not.
Just be prepared that your guests will have mixed reactions with this decision.

I don't think you are crazy for thinking of changing the date. However, I think you should keep it. I agree that it was a horrible tragedy, but life does go on. I think your wedding will help people move on. Maybe you could have a moment of silence before dinner to recognize those who were lost.

Keep your date. I would be prepared though that some people who lost very close loved ones will not attend. Life moves on and no one will ever forget what happened 9/11, but that doesn't mean we stop living.

I'm not going to lie and tell you it doesn't matter and its just a date etc etc. Pearl Harbor was a long time ago, and that war has been fought, so people can accept that date whereas 9/11 well, we'all know the deal.
This is something you have to be prepared for choosing that date. No matter who hears it, their faces will drop, maybe even frown and JUDGEMENT will BE PASSED. I know that there was a time you asked me a question and I wouldn't even respond to you because of the date you picked. I thought it was horrible and if it REALLY was JUST A DATE then you wouldn't be asking for any discounts and would be paying full price, and I felt that you were BENEFITING off the deaths of hundreds. This is my honest to god thoughts. HOwever, since seeing this post, I see that its not that you are thoughtless and cold hearted, it really is just a day you are trying to turn into something joyful and good for you. Instead of changing the date, why don't you change the way you TELL people the date. For instance, when they ask, you could say, 'well, we chose a date that we felt our families could start anew and have new memories for so we decided on Sept. 11th.' This way, you are leading them into the thought process that you were aware its a sad day and are trying to make something good of it. I know if you had originally posted that when you asked about Sept 11th my whole opinon on it and on you would have changed.

Sweetness, when I was first looking for dates, I considered booking on 9/11. I got a lot of opinions on it (as a matter of fact, it was my very first post here), mostly unsolicited. People will have something to say about everything. FH and I checked with our immediate families and they all thought it was a wonderful idea. There is not a thing in the world that will make any of us forget what happened on 9/11, but there is no reason whatsoever that you should not be able to find some happiness on that day. People were married on 9/11 before you, people were born, people got divorced, people died (other than in the attacks) - in other words, it's a day that has a great tragedy attached to it, but it's also just another day to millions of people where other monumental things happened to them. Make the day what you want it to be. It's your wedding day and there's no better way, IMO, to prove that life goes on after a tragedy than to do something wonderful and happy, like getting married!

We were considering that date...but we had a different reason for not going with it: it is FH's date with his ex!!
If that had not have been the case, we definitely would have booked it.

I don't there is anything wrong with choosing that date. However, like many posts said, people will make their comments. I know it has been two years but many people still feel like it was yesterday. It is time to move on but you cant tell that to some people especially if they lost someone. It is a very sensitive topic. Do what you feel is right. Only you can make that decision.

Re: Are there any other September 11th brides out there? I am thinking of changing the day! Do you think I am CRAZY?
Thanks girls, but the other thing that bothers me is that so many things really didn't work out for that day to start with. First the band we originally wanted for the first date we chose before the 11th became available was booked. It had been booked almost 2 years in advance for the 11th (believe that one). We looked for 6 months for another band and had to settle for the 2nd choice. The other day my dj for my e-party told me my band doesn't read the crowd as well as the one we originally wanted. Now I am really more upset. Second, my priest originally would not marry us on the 11th bc he has a memorial service in the evening, so we had to fight him for that. I feel like I fought for the Sept 11 day when the other day, which is a Sunday there was no inconviences for except for the fact that it was a Sunday and ppl might leave early. Oh and we would have had a little less time for picts. i just feel like maybe its an omen NOT to get married on that day!

It is your day, and if poepl are not happy about it, they can stay home. There will always be someone that has something to say about evey decision that you make.
I think it will give a new meaning to the day for you and your family, and that is a healthy thing.

from your second post, it seems like you already changed your mind and are just looking for the go ahead. With some many problems already starting and you just picked it... I would have to say I would change my date. It seems like your rationalizing it, so you must have already made your choice.
