Are there any other September 11th brides out there? I am thinking of changing the day! Do you think I am CRAZY?

Original post by sweetnessconfused

I cried all last night. My FI has had it! He keeps saying we already booked the band we can't get the $$$ back and if the guy doesn't resell the date we have to pay him in full according to the contract. We didn't lose anyone, but FI brother lost a friend, but we asked him and he said it would be OK that ppl need to move on. I know my cousin is going to be uncomfortable given that she lived in BPC and her condo was completely ruined. I don't know what to do. Should this just be a day of mourning or should I move on and realize that I will be marrying the man of my dreams and that is all that matters? FI is ready to call off everything!!!

After reading your other post to Bethsair, seeing how personally involved you were, if YOU can handle it, that's all that matters. I would just be concerned at what a HUGE range of emotions are felt on your wedding day in general, will you be able to deal with the close calls experienced by your family members?

My grandmother got married on September 11, 1938.

I look at it this way, babies will continue to be born on September 11 and no one says, 'God Bless You' to them, do they? But, I think it would be nice to maybe say a prayer before dinner in honor of those who were lost.

Edited to say: And, last year, a very close family friend died ON MY BIRTHDAY! But, we are all still celebrating my birthday this year.

Sweetness...I don't think you are crazy. Do what will work best for you and FH.

I, for one, would love to attend a wedding (or any happy occasion) on that date. It would be a great relief to me to be able to associate 9/11 with something other than that horrible day.

Best wishes in your planning. You are very considerate to worry about how others will feel, but in the end it's yours and FH's decision.

I think at this point we all know it's a touchy subject with lots of views, and memmories of that day. Because it is such a new tragedy and one of the worst in history and occured in such a cruel circmstance, it will continue to be controversial.

Do what is right for you,,,there will be comments no matter what the date.....Just a few weeks ago a bride was hearing grief because of a yankee game. We just heard from an aunt,,,we are giving up an annual motorcycle trip for the wedding...you know what DON'T COME!

It'll work out, be hapy about it, and I think the best thing is be prepared for comments and handle them with your head high so guests don't think it's a bad choice.

Nothing wrong with getting married on Sept 11th. Life goes on. These days, I think that celebrating LIFE is a wonderful way to honor those who passed. Make your own history, and replace the bad with new, happy memories. Don;t change the date. Seriously.

It is a very touchy subject, but if you're ready to move on, then go for it. Yes, I'm sure people will comment on it, and it will be the 3 year anniversary, but this is your wedding. I agree with whoever said that you should try and explain why you're having it on September 11th, and also I like the idea of having some sort of memory for it during the ceremony, or even the reception!
