If you go onto the website ARRT ( I believe it is) they have listings of schools that offer the program.. I went to the VA in Northport for Nuclear Medicine Unfortunately they don't have a school anymore but if you can get into Nuclear Medicine School your salary is even higher.... Molloy has Nuc Med School and I know Nassau has X Ray school. It is a two year program and it is so worth it.....

FM me if you want more details

What do you need a 2 year degree in? And what are the types of hours in this field? I thought of this as well.

Feel free to FM me and I will try to help from this end. GL - I should have done this YEARS ago . . . GREAT career potential!!!!

Re: Are there any X-ray techs out there?

You get an Associates through the school you are in you can't really transfer credits its a program not straight college courses, and you have clinical rotations its like a program from 8-4 or 9-5 and they don't differ their hours.

I am a Nuclear Technologist and went to school with the X-Ray Technologists...
You can also look into Radiation Theraphy, Sonography and Nuclear Medicine. For Sonography there is a great program through Boces in Northport but you would have to try to get in next year they accept aplications in January for the class starting in July. You do need pre reqs for all of these programs....
Radiation Theraphy there is a program at Stonybrook.. Good Luck

Interesting. And do you work in a hospital? What are your hours? Similar to those of a nurse, some nights, days and weekends?

Really depends. There are so many options and schedules to choose from.

But do you have a choice in your work schedule as far as hours?

Re: Are there any X-ray techs out there?

From the little research I have done so far I think they are all full time courses. So I would have to quit my job and go full time.

Unfortunately, this is the case lost of the time! However, You can often get some PT work @ the medical center that you set to do your clinicals in. As far as schedules, there is a lot of flexibility. I know where I am we offer 3/12's work three 12 hour shift and get paid for a 40 work week.!!! There are other added incentives too!!!

I work full time in a Cardiology office now and I work M-F varying times no later than 7pm no weekends. I did work in a hospital right out of school M-F 8-4 and weekends call.. so it really varies what you want to do... Good luck with it
The schools are NOT flexible and you do have to find some work nights if you have to work. I worked waitressing at night while I was in school. It really is worth it though..
