Are these lyrics too weird for a father-daughter dance?
I wanted to dance to Wake Up Little Suzy with my dad because he always used to sing it to get me out of bed when I was a kid and I always think of him when I hear it. But now I am questioning the lyrics. Advice please?
Wake up, a-little Suzy. Wake up. Wake up, a-little Suzy. Wake up.
We've both been sound alseep. Wake up, a-little Suzy, and weep. The movie's over. It's four o'clock And we're in trouble, deep.
Wake up, a-little Suzy. Wake up, a-little Suzy.
Well, what're we gonna tell your mama? What're we gonna tell your pop? What're we gonna tell our friends When they say, 'Ooh-la-la.'
Wake up, a-little Suzy. Wake up, a-little Suzy.
Well, we told you're mama that we'd be in by ten. Well, Suzy, baby, looks like we goofed again.
Wake up, a-little Suzy. Wake up, a-little Suzy. We gotta go home.
Wake up, a-little Suzy. Wake up. Wake up, a-little Suzy. Wake up.
The movie wasn't so hot. It didn't have much of a plot. We fell asleep. Our goose is cooked. Our reputation is shot.
Wake up, a-little Suzy.

who cares what others think about the appropriateness of the lyrics? that song has special meaning for you and your father and i think it would be just fantastic if you danced to it with him. what a great meaning!!! to think you will be dancing at your wedding with your father--the same song he sang with you when you were a little girl. i think THAT is great--and you should be proud to do it.
other people may not understand the reason you chose that--but you and your father will, and that makes it even MORE special.

It's a special song between you and your dad.
For goodness' sake, my dad and I danced to the first verse of 'Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh' because it's OUR SONG.
Go for it!!

That was so nice. And a good point. Thanks!

hummm i read the lyrics before reading your explaination... I say it is sweet to do since that is your and your dad's thing! honestlly i never really knew or payed attention to the lyrics.. maybe you can have the MC shortly explain... maybe 'Mr. YouDad used to sing this to his little girl to get her out of bed'
or if you are having a band maybe they or you can come of with a few different lyrics in the 'weird' spots?!?!
since it is special to you that is ALL that matters!

I would def dance to that song because it means something special to you and your father. That dance is special as it is, but to add something that means so much to you both makes that dance even more special!!! Go for it and don't worry about what other people think. It is your day and you do what makes you happy!!!

I wouldn't use it. While the lyrics 'wake-up little susie' are appropriate for waking you up, I don't think it's a good choice for a father daughter dance. I know it's a cute thing between the two of you, but do you have to use it at your wedding?
