Hey girls. When we got engaged of course everybody was jumping to 'I'll pay for this'. Of course...months later and 7 months to go - nobody is saying THAT anymore! It's okay - we're paying for the bulk of it ourselves, but my FH father and stepmom had said they'd pay for the flowers because they did the same for his brother. But I want to start putting a little more deposit down now on all my vendors. Should I ask again if the offer still stands? It's such an uncomfortable thing to do! (also - my flowers are twice the price that his brother's were....) Thanks!

What I would do....
I would ask your FH to sit down with his parents (with you) and just tell them that you wanted to go over the florist bill with them. Also, if your flowers are double what they gave the brother, you should also offer, 'We know that this is a lot more than you orginally thought it would be. We think it is only fair that you pay 1/2 of the bill' See what they say.
If your own parents made offers to help do the same with them. Explain that you need to know what your savings will need to be to pay for the wedding and then go over what bills they said they would cover. If the bills are A LOT more than orginally discussed give them the option of not paying in full.
I know that when my Mom got married you didn't pay a lot of the vendors until the day of the wedding. So your parents may not know that you need to pay in advance and the payment schedules.

I agree with Michele31 ...
whenever a problem arose with my FH's parents - he spoke with them and when it arose with mine - I spoke to them. It is just so much easier that way!
Good Luck!

same situation ...
My FH and I are in a similar situation. First his parents said they would pay for the flowers, the limos and the rehersal dinner. But now they are building a house and said they don't know if they will be able to pay for the flowers or the limo....so I think what we are going to do is plan on paying for them ourselves but he will let them know the prices in case they want to help out.
kind of a sticky situation. Good luck to you.
