Has anyone been to a thursday wedding? How was the attendance? Any opinions / suggestions are welcomed.
TIA

Re: Are Thursday weddings popular?
Thursday is said to be the new Friday when it comes to weddings. So If it were friday ppl still will have to either leave work early or take off. Same thing for Thursday--Besides everyone is always looking for an excuse to take off right!?

Your family will always go.
I have a REALLY hard time getting out of work early...I never know if I'll be out at 5PM or 8PM, so I prefer Sundays (and had mine on Sun for those like me), but there's something to be said about knowing you don't have to go to work the next day!

Re: Are Thursday weddings popular?
Religious Jews often have weddings on Thursday nights because they can't do Friday or Saturday. And people on a tight budget are turning to Thursdays because it's so much cheaper than Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.
If my sister were getting married on a Thursday, I'd go. A cousin, probably. Friend from college, maybe. Anyone else... probably not.

Re: Are Thursday weddings popular?
Thanks. I'm so irritated with myself because I found my dream venue.. and had a date in mind. 9/19/09. So I decided that I'd wait until after the holidays to book and of course now the date is booked. So after ballin my eyes out.. crazy right.. I decided that maybe this was meant to be. So I called the venue and they said that the date that I wanted is now 7,800.00 that's almost $2000.00 more than when I first inquired when I got engaged in July 07. So I asked her how could we get married there most economically... she said that the cost can vary between $1,500. to 7,800. Can you believe that!?!?!? So of course we still want to marry and have reception there but why spend almost 5k more and nothing changes..the place is still beautiful. So now we're considering a date in either April, July, August or November... and either a thursday, friday or sunday.. per her instructions for the cheaper day. I'm just letting it out as I don't want to burden the family with my dilema. Thanks for listening.

That's what my FH says.. that logistically it's difficult as many people to be invited are out of towners.. BUT this is the first wedding of the first grandchild (me) and it's a BIG deal to the family. I don't wanna burden anyone and want it to be most conveinent for everyone. I have to admit I love the idea of the GREAT rates for a thursday wedding.

Re: Are Thursday weddings popular?
To me, i would not want to go to a wedding on a thursday, that is just me. It would depend on whose wedding it was, where it was and if I could get off of work the following day. Its not always the easiest thing to get off on a friday or leave work early on a thursday and take friday off. that is just me tho

If I were you, and I HAD to get married there, I'd choose a Sunday in November instead of a Thursday in your desired month of September. No one will complain about going to a November wedding, but honestly, most everyone you invite will grumble about a Thursday wedding.
Cutting the guest list is the other best way to cut down on costs... instead of having, say, 150 people, have 110 and save yourself $4000 right there.

Re: Are Thursday weddings popular?
For me it wouldn't be a problem because most of the time I can make my own schedule and full time is only three days or nights a week. Of course even I would need ample notice. But FH wouldn't be able to make it. Not only would he have to leave early for work to make it, he'd probably would have to leave the party early too for work the next day.
Could you have a friday night or sunday night wedding that would be considered an off day as well? I saved $5K have a sunday night instead of a saturday night. I would have saved more if I had a sunday afternoon.
My friends have told me they would make it and party even if it was a tuesday but I think the majority of guests would have a difficult time with a midweek wedding.

Yeah..I think you girls are right. Just thinking of it makes me nervous. And with family traveling as far as Alaska.. it would be TOO much. I think we'll try to get a sunday date or something in July..which is significant because we became a couple on July 5th and go engaged 1.5 years later on July 16th. It's considered an off month for the venue so hopefully it'll work out.

Even an afternoon wedding in the summer would be nice. Outdoor cocktail hour and you can even have an after party with the bridal party.

Re: Are Thursday weddings popular?
It might be complicated if you have OOT guests. It also combines the problem of people having to worry about leaving work early/rushing from work AND having work the next day.
(We're having a Sunday wedding, but we're doing Sunday afternoon because we have lots of OOT guests -- we expect most will stay over Sunday night too, but if they cant it leaves them time to fly back and lets our older relatives with ~ 2 hour drives to make it back at a 'reasonable hour')
In the end, do whatever you want and the people important to you will come share your day.
Thurs night doesn't seem like such a big deal to me because I've been scheduling my classes to have Fridays off for ages, and 'Thurs is the new Fri' for students

That's what we're doing -- Summer afternoon Sunday wedding w/ optional afterparty. It also leaves leeway for OOT guests to travel, which is a special consideration for me after FH almost missed our e-party.
Our e-party was a Sat afternoon, FH had direct flight friday that was supposed to get him in 7pm. Storms led to LGA ***SHUTTING DOWN FOR THE NIGHT*** and he ended up getting the last seat on a connection to TX which was delayed again in TX and finally got him into Newark at 2am. It was after 4am by the time we got back to long island. I was so afraid he wasn't going to make it to NY at all!!!!
This way everyone can fly in Fri night or even Saturday with pleeeeeeeeeenty of time for our Sunday wedding.

I think it would make a slight difference but it would depend...like another poster said if it were a wedding for a close family member then yes, but just a friend.....I don't think I would.

Re: Are Thursday weddings popular?
I was in one once and the attendance was the same as most weddings I have been to. It was in the summer (don't know if that made a difference) and I believe the majority of the guests lived on LI.

Re: Are Thursday weddings popular?
I went to a Tuesday night wedding and there were tons of people there. If people like you, they're coming... it doesnt matter if its 2:00 in the morning on a Wednesday or 7:00pm on a Saturday.... I think people will go out of their way and be inconvenienced for people they love.
