Are We Supposed To Pay For This TOO???

As always, I find new stuff to worry about everyday. I was sitting here thinking about the rehearsal dinner.

1st of all, who's invited? Well obviously the BP...but what about their significant others? I have an extremely large BP...so now what WAS 16 ppl can become 32 !

If their significant others come along to the RD, am I supposed to pay for them too??

OH GAWD!!!!

I just read that you invite the BP with their spouses and if they live with someone, dates are not required.

We are inviting, BP, grandparents, parents and the FG with her parents. Anyone that has a husband or wife will be invited with that person, boyfriends and girlfriends will not be invited.

If they are invited (which most times they are) then I can't see expecting them to pay for themselves???
It sure would be nice if the did....but if they are invited they shouldn't have to pay....

Radiostar, try having something casual. a brunch at your house, a BBQ.

I believe Lizlen got a great deal at Olive garden. I was there this weekend- yummy!!!!

Good idea Nvrbrd. I'm just a little disappointed because I wanted to do something a little different like a dinner cruise...or getting a VIP room at Strike or Jillians.. or something like that. I don't think I wanna spend a thousand bucks on a RD, ya'know what I mean?

A friend of mine had a dinner with the immediate family and then had a rehearsal dessert with the BP & others...

In terms of etiquette. the rehearsal dinner is supposed to be hosted and paid for by the parents of the groom.
But nowadays anything goes. We paid for our RD.
It was all the people in the bridal party and SIGNIFICANT significant others. No dates.
The FGs, ringbearers and their parent's were also invited.
It ended up being about 25 people.

You're also supposed to invite out-of-town guests, but we couldn't afford that because we had 50 guests come in from out of town.

we only invited the parents, and anyone playing a key role in the wedding, no significant others etc. This can get very costly.

Like Marcela I am glad that my FILs are paying for my RD.

The inlaws are suppose to cover this dinner although that isn't always the case. And yes, significant others are usually invited guests. We have over 50 going to ours!

Patty, would you believe that ours will have anywhere between 90 and 100 people!!! Thank GOD we're not paying for this!! FMIL is inviting all close family, bp and out of towners..

MY BP is about 28 ppl.
No sig. others unless they are in from out of town.
My BP seems ok with that.

We're only inviting the BP and immediate family. We're having a formal affair and spending a lot of $$, so the rehearsal dinner is going to be a BBQ at the FH's parents house (we live in the city in a small apt.). It's going to be hamburgers, hot dogs, chicken and veggie burgers-typical summer picnic. This also gives everyone a chance to socialize better than if they were all seated at a table isolated from people at the other end. It also gives kids a chance to play with each other rather than have a whole weekend where they have to sit and behave:) It will be relatively inexpensive, and hopefully a whole lot of fun!

P.S.

In terms of 'etiquette'-many people don't seem to realize that a percentage of us (I assume you may fall in this category) are paying for the entire thing ourselves. Not everyone's family has the means or the desire to contribute (although we got a nice gift from the FH's family and they are covering the rehearsal bbq-that is not always the case).

we have no idea what to do about a rehearsal dinner. we're simply out of money with all of the wedding costs. my mom mentioned it but i couldn't possibly ask her to pay for it- she's already helping out so much & isn't wealthy. i'm hoping my FILs offer to cover it, but so far there is no sign of that!

I think you should invite significant others. We're having approx 50 people at ours. We're inviting the BP our parents, the parents of the Jr. BM and dates. The only people not invited with dates are FI's little bro and sis, they're only 15 & 17 and not involved with anyone.
