We're considering getting married during the day on New Year's Eve 2006, which is a Sunday. I am wondering if the hall (we're still undecided) and different vendors will be more expensive since it is a holiday. Is this true from your experience?

They can be. It depends. I was going to change my date to Sunday July 2, 2006 and my DJ said it would be 10% more b/c he pays his workers more on a Holiday weekend.

Re: Are weddings more expensive on holidays?
NY Eve is a popular date for vendors to 'up' their prices as opposed to lets say Labor Day. It's a possibility that they might increase there prices, I would be careful.
Good Luck

Ours was Memorial Day weekend, and it wasn't any more expensive than a regular weekend. The only thing is that flights for your OOT guests might be more expensive.

Alot of times, Sundays of holiday weekends are considered Saturdays, and therefore, the price will reflect this.

I would think New Years would be more expensive, not less. People will be having large parties, so the vendors will know what a lot of pepople will be looking for space.
Also expect your photgrapher and DJ to much more expensive.

The only thing that is more expensive for us is the dj.

I'm getting married on Sunday of labor day weekend in the evening. We saw over 12 halls and each place we went said it's more expensive than a regular sunday because it's a holiday. They charge you a Sat. night price and the Sat. during a holiday weekend is the most expensive day to get married.

We're getting married Sun. night of Labor Day weekend and the same thing happened to us...Saturday prices.
As for New Years Eve- my friend's sister booked Flowerfield's at a very low rate for that night b/c nobody wanted it.

New Year's eve will definitely be more money. We looked into it for a milisecond and then changed our minds.

Not really. MY wedding is on Memorial day and the hall charged me a cheaper per person price.

Re: Are weddings more expensive on holidays?
I am getting married the day after Thanksgiving and I got the same price for Friday or Saturday night, whether it was Thanksgiving weekend or not. So, I think it depends on the hall and also the holiday.

I am getting married on the Saturday that precedes Presidents week and it was actually cheaper. Obviously because it is winter and a very popular week for families with children to travel. For the less popular wedding months, you can surely save money. I know we are saving at least $20-25 per head by having a Feb. wedding. I am not a spring/summer person anyway so I am very happy.

Re: Are weddings more expensive on holidays?
I got married on Monday, July 4th and actually SAVED MONEY!!!
We had an 11 am ceremony at the hall and it was on a Monday so price per person was a little more than 30% off and they lowered the minimum to 100 people. My entire reception (including DJ, food, flowers, favors, menus etc.) was less than 10K!!!! Thjis was my biggest money saver. Again, I had the same menu (Prestige) as the Saturday night bride before me but saved THOUSANDS!!
The only vendors that charged me more (or so they say) was my hair and makeup and they came to the house. Hair was $300. for me and MOH and makeup was $150 for both of us. Still below some of the going rates.

I was only looking at summer holiday weekends. I'm sure winter holiday weekends differ since it's not 'prime' season.

Honestly, I don't know if there is a prime season anymore. If you go too close to the holidays, they tell you that you compete with Holiday Parties, if you go in the fall, now fall is just as much money. People are even resorting to getting married on a Thursday!

Ditto for me. We're getting married the Sunday of Columbus weekend. Everyone gave us the 'since it's the Sunday before a holiday, we treat it like a Saturday' speech. I guess maybe it depends on the holiday. Kinda stinks for us tho, because not everyone is even off on Columbus day!
