Re: Are you
I am not. We both have careers and we aren't super young (28 and 32). I think I may have felt differently a few years ago, but I asked him if he would want to change his and become someone new, and he agreed. Kids will have my last name as their middle name, and have his last name.
I had been ok with hyphenation for me (not the kiddies), but his last name is so long (13 letters as opposed to my five), so we opted out of that. He can't even fit his name on some forms, I would be screwed!!!

Re: Are you
Not fully. I'm hyphenating. I love my last name, so there is no way I am completing giving it up. By doing so, I feel like I would lose something. Fh, told me the decision was entirely mine, so i figured hyphenating was the way to go.

Re: Are you
Yes I am, and luckily he has a normal last name -- Donnelly! I have to say though, that I am definetly a little sad about losing my last name

Re: Are you
I am doing it because that is what we are 'supposed to do'. Not happy about it as it is a very common name and i like my name. But I don't want our kids to have a different name.

Re: Are you
I'm excited to have my new name. It is said to give up my last name now though. It does feel like a part of me

Re: Are you
only socially. I don't mind going by Mrs. Smith, but all of my professional things are in my maiden name, all of my papers that I've published are in my maiden name, and it would just be a PITA to try and change all that. So legally I'll still be me, but socially I'll be Mrs Smith.
The fact that his last name is Smith also made me not really want to take it since my last name is more unique than his

Chanwich, I totally agree with you on this one! My degree, my dissertation, and all my professional presentations are under this name. Also, FH's sister has the same first name as me. I don't want to share the same name as her!

Re: Are you
Classic Convo! FH and I argue about this all the time I love my last name and more importantly my dad! why should I have to lose part of me just because I'm gaining something else? The compromise we've come to is me changing my middle name to my maiden name and taking his last name. I just can't give it up! On the other side, I want to have the same last name as my future kids thus the compromise but if it wasn't for that, I'd probably keep mine shhhhhh lol

Re: Are you
I know I'm going to end up changing it. But I have struggled with this!!! It's not even that fact that no one can pronounce it, it's just not MY name!!!
