Are you a gracious person?

Are you a gracious person?

That said, do you let little slightings and annoyances roll off your back when it comes to the wedding? I have a friend who has a very 'gimme gimme' attitude and she's made some very remarks regarding guests, gifts, etc.

I am NOT having a wedding to get gifts or make money, and honestly the thought of people giving us money and gifts makes me feel weird. I could care less if we get anything, I appreciate that people would celebrate with us.

Or do people pretend like they won't care and then as soon as the wedding's over they're getting pizzed at people who didn't give 'good enough' gitfs?

Am I naive or is she just ungrateful?

I'm with you - I just want people there. She sounds a little ungreatful.

Edited after you edited your question: There are DEFINITELY some people that act like they don't care about gifts/presents, but then complain that they didn't get enough or get what they want. Meanwhile, before the wedding, it was all about, 'it's the thought that counts'.

Yea I want to enjoy and celebrate the day, I don't care what gifts or how much money I get, that's not what the day is about! She sounds a little ungrateful to me!!!!!
I once heard someone say my grandmother only gave me $50 bucks and was like annoyed at the fact !!!!!!
which got me so upset because when I heard that all I could think about was how I wish my grandmother was still alive and could be there!!!!!!

We've said it on here so many times...weddings can bring out the worst in people.

I know that some people won't be able to give us a monetary or physical gift, but the gift to FH and I is their presence during our special day. I do hope that they know that that's how we are and don't feel like they should not attend because they can't afford a gift.

I don't think that kind of thinking makes you or I naive. We are choosing to plan weddings within a budget that we've set for ourselves. That's our choice, and IMO to expect guests to pay for their share of it, in the form of cash, is not cool.

Girl, I know the feeling. I have cried so many times just thinking that my grandmothers won't be there with me...but you know what? I think, in some way, they will be. And your grandma will be there with you too, somehow. I think they'll have the best view in the house.

Re: Are you a gracious person?

I love gifts esp monetary ones, and eventho the most important part to me that all of our guests come, I do want to get nice envelopes.
just like when I went to my friends' and family's weddings, bdays, any other occasions and gave very nice gifts I want to get the same (not in value, just the same way of me giving and the thought behind it).
I dont expect ppl to give, but it would be wonderful and will help a lot. plus this is just the way its done in my family.

it all depends to what level her gimme gimme attitude goes.

ETA: most of my guests are OOT and to me their investment into transportation is a huge gift

You have got a point there! Thanks for the smile!

I am so with you on this.
A little background for those of you who dont know- I was married once before. My parents biggest reason for me no to have a wedding is because 'everyone gave you money at your first wedding' I have told them we are not doing this for money- we just want everyone to share our day with us
I dont care if people give us gift or not

Re: Are you a gracious person?

lol call me tacky. i dont care. im a veryyy generous person. if some1 cant 'afford' a gift, then dont come. if i cant afford an activity, i decline. simple as that. as far as how much.. thats not my call. but i know quite a FEW ppl that have STIFFED @ wedddings.. and guess what??? tthey ALLLLLLLLLLLLLL went out and bought new suit/dresses and they ALLL got their hair done, nails done. so , please, call me what u want.. but ppl that STIFF arent financially strugggling..theyre just selfish classless fks.

im in nooooooooo way expecting much and im def not having a wedding to make money. thats just ridiculous. but as far as going someplace empty handed, ESPECIALLY a wedding. thats wrong.
