i grew up in a house with both my parents and eventually my brother and sister smoking, disgusting! hate it, never tried it and i just don't understand why people do it.

ANd i am sooo glad that the majority of you who do...have stopped!

I just do not understand why people do this. Because it was cool? Well it isn't. It kills you! And why anyone would want to do anything that would/could kill you, making your life and your families lives a living hell watching you die...IS BEYOND ME.

My aunt that just died was a smoker...stopped 20 years ago! JUST DIED of lung cancer...age 54!

I quit a little over 4 years ago.

Dh thought he smelled cigs on my breath the other day and I told him he was crazy. I smoked at my bach. party and I thought my lungs were going to explode, so there is no way I'd become a smoker again!

I'm sorry about your aunt.

My father in law always says smoking isn't hurting him at all. That his doc has said his lungs are fine. Meanwhile he has asthma and sometimes has to use that breathing machine thing, and then lights up right after. He even had a throat cancer scare but yet he went back to smoking. I just don't understand this mentality. He probably won't even accept that it's killing him when he's dying inthe hospital. He says his doctor said living next to the LIE is hurting him more than smoking. Yeah ok. These people never open their windows, how can that be true?

Nope. I've tried a few times if I'm drinking, but it just doesn't appeal to me.

I quit about 3 1/2 years ago and I'm so happy I did. I'm the worst ex-smoker. FH smokes and I can't stand it!!!

Not a smoker. Never tried. I think I was always more afraid of coughing while smoking than looking uncool not smoking so I just didn't bother.

I smoked for about 10 years and quit just over 1 year ago.

It's so hard for people who have never smoked to understand the addiction.

Your hooked on so many levels! I couldn't even talk on the phone at home without having one, Driving, after eating, when drinking. It was so hard to dissociate my everyday thinks from smoking.

But... I don't get sick nearly as much as I used to and I feel genuinely healthier. Physically and mentally. Just knowing that I quit makes me more confident.

5 years I was a pack a day! It's been 2 years, and I have never felt better (although when I am drinking, I REALLY want one.)

Yes, I smoke. Times are different now, but I started very young, back around 1983 (I was 11 years old)and it WAS cool back then. I've tried several times to quit, but I haven't kicked it yet. Unfortunately, I still enjoy it too much.
