Are you all allowing your Dj to...

Original post by wiggleit28

Play 50s/60s rock like 'the twist' and 'rock around the clock?' The reason i'm asking is that FMIL called FH last night and made a special request for 'rock around the clock.' FH and I had both already decided that we were going to steer clear of anything well, cheesy-ish. He told her 'absolutely not' and now we both feel like jerks but at the same time feel that we should be able to determine what kind of musical vibe we want at our wedding. We'll probably just end up playing the song but just venting a little and wondering what your thoughts are.

Hope you are all having a wonderful weekend!

FH and I are going to try and mix in some older stuff for our parents. Our guests go from eight years old to eighty-two years ago, so it's hard to just settle on one style of music and still keep everyone happy and involved.

Most weddings start out with some 50s/60s /70s music to get some of the older people out on the dance floor. and everyone no matter what age dances to the twists. that seems to be the first set. then you get in to like 80's some classic rock music in the next set like living on a prayer things like that and then the last set is the more modern music bc the old people are pooped out by then its the young people who are still on the dance floor.

That is how our Dj went over it with us and it definitely makes sense. I don't want an empty dance floor bc we only played the music that we like. there will be no Hokey pokey , conga line or macarena. or any of that type of stuff.

Most DJ's have an oldies montage that they play with the most popular songs. That's what we had. Same thing with some 80's music. That way everybody gets a little of what they want.

I like a few oldies. Not crazy about that particular song, but oldies are great at a wedding! I refuse to have an group dances though. Can't stand them! I always feel like a fool doing them, so why would I make myself feel stupid on my wedding day where there are lots of cameras on me.

I think a few would be fine. I think its cute to see my older family members dancing like they did back in the day. I would probably dance to the twist and I love shout. As far as group dances you can always catch me on the dance floor when the cha cha slide or the cupid shuffle is playing and maybe even the electric slide.

I am with everyone else. Just a few of those songs sprinkled in is fine! I actually think they are a lot of fun! We will def be playing songs that might be on some ppls 'cheesy or hillbilly' list, like the electric slide and thriller. lol

Now, would I take requests from the crowd no way!

Absolutely NOT---I already made it crystal clear that there should be NO requests from ANYONE. And also no line dancing---(I hate it, it's cheesy and corny) electric slide, congo lines none of it. It is your wedding you make the rules.
