Original post by DeniseMang

I was wondering if everyone is banking their baby's cord blood or not?

Thanks,

Can someone explain to me in layman's terms what the benefit of banking is?

I think emilain can explain it best, but basically cord blood can be used to cure some cancers, heart disease, alheizmers. It is a gauranteed match if your child God forbid gets a certain cancer that it has the potential to cure, it can even be used as a possible match for a sibling or relative.

How can it cure those things if they don't even have a medicinal cure for it now? I just don't understand

I don't know much about it either...FI and I felt we wouldn't of been able to afford it but to me nothing is guareented in life but who knows how they cure them with it!!
plus I think some people think it's like playing god or research for cloneing.
I guess there's pros and cons to it, personally I wish would of done it because 'god forbid' my son ever needs it, I would wonder what if we just banked his cord? but to me something that important shouldn't come with such a heafty pricetag, they should make it more affordable...I mean come on if it saves a childs life from a disease, it should funded by the goverment or through health insurance!!

Oneday it will be funded by the govt and heathcare companies, right now not all govet oficials are on board with this medical intervnetion It saves many kid's lives. Like I said in the past I have seen a feww children with leukemia go into remission because of their own stem cells or their siblings's stem cells being used to take out bad blood and replace it with new, fresh, healthier blood and stem cells (they mutate). There is also a chance that it could be used for a parent, a grandparent, a cousin, etc. I have seen a grandparent and a granchild be a match for each other and that grandma is now alive to enjoy her 3rd mother;s day while in remission with her family. If there is a 'chance' to save a family member's life, I'M ON BOARD! It's just like having car or life insurance, it's expensive BUT WORTH IT! FM me if you need more info. And remember, the companies WILL WORK WITH YOU to try to make a payment plan affordable, you just hae ot ask.
