We have not finalized this. Ok my first name and my last name go great together. Not so much with his last name. I actually laughed one time when someone asked if I was Mrs. _
On top of that it is hard for people to pronounce.
We have come up with a ton of different other names, like DeWookie, which is everyones favorite. But I don't know about family. Then there is hyphenating.
What are you doing?

I am legally hyphenating.. BUT-- I will never use the two names together..
This way- I can keep my maiden name when I want to and use my married when I want to- and for legal purposes and kids-- I will have their last name too
Im doing the same hyphenating to use whichever i want

Re: Are you changing your name
I'm taking his last name. After all, he means so much more to me than the father I haven't seen since I was ten! (Besides, it's a nice Italian name )

Re: Are you changing your name
I am making my middle name, my current last name. I plan on still using mine at work- I have too much of a postive reputation there to change it now.

I'd like to hyphenate it, but I'm not gonna.
I will take Michael's last name and be traditional.

Re: Are you changing your name
Of course-the only way to do it! I can't wait to get rid of my ugly last name, no one could ever pronounce it right...My new last name is going to be beautiful (AND Italian!!)

Re: Are you changing your name
I'm definitely not dropping my last name entirely. I haven't decided if I'm going to keep my last name or hyphenate the two. Our children will have his last name.

Re: Are you changing your name
Still undecided. A lot of people call me by my last name and while I hated it growing up, I have come to love it. For a while I thought that I wouldn't change it for a couple of years (until we have kids), but now I am having second thoughts. I think that I will end up keeping mine and adding his so I can use either.

Re: Are you changing your name
I'm going to make my last name my middle name and then take his last name. I plan to use my 'new' middle name on all my work stationary though. I considered hyphenating but this seems like a good way to sort of 'transition' into dropping my last name at some point. I'm just not ready to do it yet!

Its not even really 'mine' its my dad's and his dad's and his dad's etc etc
so i dont really care...as long as im still Jen Im happy
As a bit of an aside...I've never understood this logic. That would mean that no female actually has her 'own' name. I consider my last name my 'family' name, not owned by any one specific person in my family.
As for name change, I think whatever makes someone happy is great, either way.
For centuries female children were considered the property of their father and carried his last name until they married, at which time became the property of their husbands and adopted the last name of their husband. This long standing practice is now changing as more women have chosen family and careers and want to retain their own surname and identity.
Its just my opinion on the name thing...everyone has a different take on it.

Re: Are you changing your name
I'm taking his name. I wanted to make my last name, my middle name, but then my parents were offended that I would change my middle name! I think that wherever I am, regardless of how I'm signing my name, I WILL ALWAYS be the same. It's going to be weird signing that name though!

Re: Are you changing your name
I am doing the same. I just can't give up my last name all together...I didn't realize how attached I was.
