Are you comfortable in your own skin?

Are you comfortable in your own skin?

The re ocurring post on BHB about guest/no guest made me think of this.

Do you like to do things/go places alone or would you rather have someone with you all the time.

Here are things I have done alone and still do periodically

1. Gone to the movies
2. I go to Houstons once a week by myself and sit at the bar and eat spinach dip
3. Gone to a wedding without a date once
4. Eaten in a restaurant
5. Sit at the Barnes & Nobles Cafe with a snack and a magazine

I love my own company at times.

What have you guys done alone?

Not so much, but I have gone to coffee shop/diner type restaurants, bars and movies by myself. And have been to a couple of weddings by myself but I knew a lot of other people going.

The only one of the things you listed that I have done alone is go to a wedding w/o a date and that was because I wasn't invited &guest and I hated that I had to travel alone!

And I've gone to lunch by myself plenty but other than that the only time I like to be alone is when I'm in my house or when I'm driving (during the day only). Other than that, I don't like to be alone much. I'd rather be with someone and quiet than alone.

I don't do much alone, however, here's a few things I WOULD do:

Go to the movies alone
Go to a party alone
And I'd probably sit in a book store as well

I think that's about it... but am I completely comfortable in my own skin??? no...

One of my all-time favorite things to do is spend a lazy Sunday afternoon in Barnes and Noble doing nothing but browsing. By myself. I adore bookstores and even worked in one for a few years.

One happy Sunday I sat at a table in Barnes and Noble and went through countless coffee table books on Old New York. There are all these fascinating books with pictures of New York from like 1900-1960 and is absolutely fascinating to see how much the city has changed and yet remained the same.

nrvbrd! I LOVE Houston's I worked there, too. And now I work next door to Citicorp. Wheh do you go?

I actually travelled to Canada by myself once for a few days. I was going through a rough time and thought I could some time to myself. I didn't know anyone, or where I was going...I just did it!
I have to admit--it was scary and made me kind of depressed but also stronger!

LeeLee that is amazing!!!!

Thrilled, I don't have a set day, it is just when I feel the urge. I try to get there between 12-1230p since the bar seats go fast.

Wow, i dont really do anything by myself.. I always go shopping alone, for house stuff or cloths. i always go alone. I have never gone to the movies or ate alone, at work i dont even leave my desk if i am going to be on my own for lunch. I just sit and read..

I always do everything with Frank..

I do go get manicures and pedicures from time to time alone.. Does that count?

Before I met hubby, I always travelled on my own. I have gone to the movies alone, I have eaten alone. Just last week I went to IHOP by myself. Alone time is some of the best time one can have sometime.

Alone time was my favorite part of single life and something that I have totally come to treasure since FH and I moved in together. He doesn't really grasp the concept of me wanting to be alone now and then and takes it personally sometimes.

Example: last night I went to the gym after work, got home after he had left for class, and had the place to myself for like, 4 hours. I played on the computer and didn't have anyone hovering or following me from room to room.

Mind you, I love my FH with all my heart, but I can't be with him 24-7....

Thrilled I know exactly what you are talking about. DH just does not get it at all. And I know that I have unintentionally hurt his feelings.

I feel awful that I want to do a happy dance when he says he's going to do something outside the house without me - mind you this rarely happens and it's usually early in the morning, but I cherish having time alone in our apt.

Thrilled and Shamma, you both said it perfectly.

I really treasure my alone time. I have met women who can't go pee by themselves and I feel so sorry for them.

Being alone is empowering!!!!

I know what you mean Thrilled. I love shopping by myself... no one nagging that i'm taking too long. I can spend hours in Michaels. I've sometimes told him I'm going to go there and he doesn't have to come (hint hint) but he ALWAYS wants to come with me when i go shopping. It can get annoying. It's sweet, but i can go shopping by myself.

I've eatne by myself on business trips and people would look at me weird. I didn't mind but they made me feel weird.

I've always wanted to goto the movies by myself. I was ready to go to a concert by myself cuz FH was complaining about it (Tori Amos), but he didn't want me to go alone.

OMG- I forgot the all important hobby of shopping- I can without a doubt do that by myself.

I love doing things by myself. Among my favorites are

1. Like you, going to Barnes & Nobles, sipping on a Carammel Machiato and reading or flipping through magazines.

2. Taking long strolls in the city or in a park. One of my FAVORITE spots for this is Lincoln Center. Especially by the water fountain and the little park area where they have outdoor concerts

3. Snuggling on the loveseat at home w/a blankie, pillow and teddybear and a nice sappy romantic comedy.

4. Don't laugh, but when Len's not home, I love to rummage through my closet and try everything on. That is so much fun

Liz, I love my mini fashion shows too.

Liz--that's so funny!! I do that too!
Another thing I tend to do when Peter is not home is (and don't laugh!!) put on all sorts of makeup--like glittery stuff and then wash it off before anyone sees me!
I've been doing that since I was kid--I have a whole box of sparkly makeup...

Re: Are you comfortable in your own skin?

I am not much of an alone person, I would never be able to live alone!!!!

The only thing I would be able to do is to go to the book store by myself, although depending on who's wedding it was i could go alone, as long as I had other friends that were invited.

I am very awkard around people at first, and people think I am unapproachable, becasue I often feel uncomfortable.

I dont do much by myself. I dont like going to movies by myself. I feel like if I want to watch a movie by myself I can just stay home.

I do go food shopping (alone) and clothes shopping (with 8 month old Emma so Im practically alone)

Re: Are you comfortable in your own skin?

Sometimes I love to be alone and I have no problem doing anything by myself. I have eaten at restaurants, gone on vacations, shop, gone to the movies all alone.

I much rather the company of my FH because I love him so, but I am very comfortable doing things on my own.
